SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

In the case of Chip Kelly, not so much. He not only dug his own grave, he carved his own coffin and chiseled his headstone too.

Owners need to have a dose of serious skepticism when regarding coaches as GM's and Personnel deciders
The list of successful Coach/GM's can be counted on one hand over the last 30 years
Chip is a fine coach and an absolute horrid GM

I think the rumor was that in the meeting where he was fired, Chip insisted that he still maintain control of the personnel decisions (meaning stay GM) next year if he was to remain coach. If true, then they had no choice but to fire him since he is not cut out for both. Since then, Chip has said he does not need such control but that may have only come to him once he was fired.

There are always exceptions to that rule.89Hen wrote:In the case of Chip Kelly, not so much. He not only dug his own grave, he carved his own coffin and chiseled his headstone too.
This is as good a reason for Chip as any.tribe_pride wrote:I think the rumor was that in the meeting where he was fired, Chip insisted that he still maintain control of the personnel decisions (meaning stay GM) next year if he was to remain coach. I don't think Tom Landry was given a fair shake either Casey.

The article was citing Kelly as their number one example Horney, so...SuperHornet wrote:There are always exceptions to that rule.89Hen wrote:In the case of Chip Kelly, not so much. He not only dug his own grave, he carved his own coffin and chiseled his headstone too.

Yet, the Cowboys are sticking with their man.

And the Eagles are wandering aimlessly through the forest with no HC because they haven't found anyone willing to work with Howie Roseman...

Waiting for a certain Defensive Coordinator of a playoff team? (Yeah - I know Coughlin just rejected them but he also has said he only has 2-3 years left and who wants to hire a head coach who says that)bluehenbillk wrote:And the Eagles are wandering aimlessly through the forest with no HC because they haven't found anyone willing to work with Howie Roseman...

Agreed. And the way he reportedly found out that he was canned was deplorable if true. Supposedly, Jones didn't even bother to talk to him. Found out from a reporter looking for an interview....andy7171 wrote:I don't think Tom Landry was given a fair shake either Casey.

Re: NFL Fires HCs too fast
Coaches are fired in the NFL in hopes that fans will get a sense of a fresh start and go back to attending games and buying tickets.
Coaching is vastly overrated at the NFL level. Bill Parcells was 0.500 at New England. Bill Belichick had a losing record at Cleveland. Mike Ditka had a terrible record at New Orleans.
Compare that to college coaches like Urban Meyer, Bryan Kelly, and Nick Saban that win wherever they go.
