United States the Serial Killers Capital of the World

Post by JohnStOnge »

Watching a documentary on serial killers. At the start it was stated that, since the 1970s, the United States has produced more than double the number of serial killers than the rest of the world combined.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

So we have more than our fair share of sociopathic sadists?

So does this provide reasonable doubt that our rate of mass shootings has less to do with the availability of guns and more with who we have here?

Did not mean to derail the topic, but you know that's a reasonable corollary. :coffee:

First, what is the definition of "serial killings"?
Second, how is that different than what the jihadists are doing?
Third, I say bullshit.
Fourth, what about D1B?

You did not derail the topic. I almost titled the thread, "Another indication that guns are not the problem." Almost mentioned that, while there are some exceptions, serial killers tend to use more "personal" means to kill their victims rather than guns. Things like strangling and stabbing.

The documentary did not provide a definition but if the definition at http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictio ... ial+killer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is accurate it may answer both questions:
serial killer A person who murders 3+ people over a period of > 30 days, with a n inactive period between each murder, and whose motivation for killing is largely based on psychological gratification.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Yeah it was sobering. At least the way the documentary described it. The narrator said that they like to see the fear up close and also like to watch people's eyes as they die to see the life go out.

I remember when I was a kid I was an avid hunter. All I had to do was walk out of my house with a rifle or shotgun (I lived down in the woods). We ate a lot of game back then. Even so, whenever I killed a squirrel, or quail, rabbit or deer, I always felt this little pang of guilt. I still do (well, maybe not so much for squirrels... fvck squirrels)

Anyway, at some point when I was a teenager I remember seeing something on serial killers- maybe it was about Bundy, I don't remember. But at some point they talked about how one characteristic that many serial killers shared was an early propensity for cruelty to animals, and I remember thinking we'll I'm pretty sure I'm off the hook on that one.

I never quite got used to killing deer but after the bacon stuffed tenderloin baked in mushroom soup came out of the oven, all was well

Back in the day, all kids were raised on a diet of serial, it was about 80% sugar. Wonder what that did?
