Ah, Texas. I've seen this fact pattern before.

Liberal DA in Houston "clears" PP and indicts the investigative journalists.

Meanwhile, conservative state AG is Austin says his office is still investigating PP and that the action in Houston will have no effect on the state investigation.

Prediction: Tex. Gov. Abbott uses pardon power to dismiss the local prosecution against the investigative journalists, calling it baseless and frivolous. Popularity soars in Tx.

An indictment by a Houston DA carries all the legitimacy of an indictment in North Korea.

Surely a lawyer understands the difference between a grand jury declining to indicate someone and a DA declining to charge someone. :?

My comment was related to the nature of Texas politics.

Sooner or later, these charges go away.

Anyway, it's hard to take these charges seriously, especially given that a top prosecutor in the Harris County DA's office sits on the board of PP that was the target of the video. :coffee:

The folks at PP are getting desperate. They are using all of PP's might. Lawsuits in San Fran. Getting an indictment in Houston. Selling the talking points that the videos were edited and distorted. :coffee:

Why the desperation? Because people have seen the videos and were appalled.

A poll by Robert Morris U shows nearly 54% of Americans favor defunding PP and providing that support to women's health organizations that do not perform abortions.

Chizzang, I think you're thinking of Oral Roberts. Regardless, RMU's poll is the one of the only reputable ones that has the majority opposing PP. Nearly every other national poll is against defunding PP.

According to my girlfriend who went to Carnegie Mellon across town
and who's sister went to school there at Robert Morris

Robert Morris is populated with a bunch of "stuffed Shirt Young Republican Federation of the Stick up the ass"
she went on for a few more minutes but yeah... okay

I'm pretty sure they could concoct a poll that shows defunding of baby killers...

It's actually the only public poll that asked a balanced question.

I know people involved in the pro-life movement, high up, in the USCCB. Trust me on this point, because I've seen internal poll numbers -- not just the RMU public poll.

Not only do a majority of Americans favor defunding PP, the swing against PP has been dramatic and the numbers are still moving against PP. Last year, at this time, the number of Americans that favored defunding PP was under 40% (even when asked a balanced question).

PP's people internally have the same polling information. That's why PP filed that lawsuit in San Francisco and pushed hard for this Houston indictment (targeting a DA's office that had among its top prosecutors a PP board member). Desperation is setting in. PP is losing. Everyone on the inside knows it. These videos have hit PP hard and PP is desperately fighting back with all its dirty tricks.

Look at the question RMU asked (a balanced question) and then compare with the questions asked by other polls. Oh wait. The articles you provided don't tell you what the question was.

Funny article from the WaPo, staffed by an editorial board deeply supportive of PP. But read the entire article. Do you see the polling numbers the WaPo buried at the end of the story? Sorta contradicts the headline, don't you think?

The RMU numbers are deadly accurate. I've seen the same range in internal polling. The swing has been about 16% against PP since July.

And no doubt PP has the same numbers. If things were business as usual, that lawsuit in San Fran would have never been filed. Why would PP continue to harp on the videos if the videos were having no effect? PP's internal polling is indicating PP has to do more -- that it is losing support because of those videos -- and has to hit back harder. Basic rule of political PR: don't turn your adversary into a martyr, except when desperate.

Oh, yea, I'm sure you're completely up-to-date on the political views of the typical RMU student.

You were thinking about Oral Roberts. It's ok to fess up. Everyone makes mistakes. I mean, you do it a lot more often than most, but it's still ok.
