Obama Brings Jobs Back to the US!

Post by 93henfan »

Making AK-47s!!!

One of his executive orders a couple of years back was to ban rifles made by Kalashnikov in Russia. So what did they do? Build a factory in Florida, of course, to circumvent the ban.

So now you have fresh AKs being pressed right here, and if there does happen to be an unscrupulous person anywhere in the production or distribution process, they won't have that pesky boat or customs to worry about.

But seriously, just another example of Obama's cluelessness. He banned the Kalashnikov imports but still allows other Russian manufacturers (Molot for instance) to export their AKs to the US, and of course Wolf and Barnaul are exporting ammunition by the boatload.

President Obama: Gun salesman of the millenium.

I know you're making a joke here, 93, but I just can't let this bullcr@p get by. There's MORE proof that Obama lied when he declared the Recession over....

Hometown Buffet has closed more than 70 restaurants nationwide in the last week, including 6 in San Diego and several more in the Sacramento area, putting a TON of people out of work, sometimes even entire families who worked at various HBs in a geographic area. There was ZERO notice on this; people showed up for a shift after having scheduled their entire week of child care based on their previously promulgated work schedule and found locked doors and a request to come in to get their final check.

This administration is despicable in the way they lie about the economy....

You know, places close down all the time; it doesn't mean we're still in a recession (from an objective POV, we're not). It seems like Hometown Buffet hasn't been able to adapt to society's changing tastes, so it will suffer until it makes the necessary adjustments or go bankrupt (a great example of a place that was recently able to reinvent itself is Olive Garden).

It's really the same in any sector. I know it hurts when people lose their jobs and entire factories shut down, but people, towns, and companies need to understand that things don't just stay the same. We're competing in a globalized and ever-changing environment thanks to technology. More than ever, you have to be prepare to adapt and change with the times.

Wow, this thread made a right at Hometown Buffet and never got back on the main route. Allow me to be the navigator.

The point was that we have a President writing shortsighted, ineffectual executive orders so that he can have something to make his low information constituency think he actually got something done.

The end result is that law-abiding American sport shooters (like me) have some of their favorite exports banned. (Ex. I enjoyed shooting Soviet-era surplus 7n6 ammo from my AK-74, as it was some of the cheapest ammo around, but that was banned.) Then the market reacts, finds a way around the feel-good legislation, and now we have another gun plant in the USA. So, the end result of Obama's executive order: Kalashnikov AK-47 plant now located in Pompano Beach, FL instead of Izhmash, Russia. (actually, Izhmash is now freed up to build AKs for our enemies now) The exports that were in the supply chain at the time of the executive order were allowed to be sold (at double and triple the prices due to the scare that Obama stirred up) creating a windfall for middle men and retailers. And, if you believe that there are criminals in the world who might try to move a gun to the black market, it's already past customs when it rolls off the line in Pompano Beach.

Obama's shortsightedness has put more lives at risk at the hands of criminals. Shrewd.

You make it sound like the executive order Obama signed was part of a gun control effort?

According to your article, the executive order was a part of the 2014 sanctions against Russia for the annexation of Crimea.
The latest U.S. sanctions build on earlier steps by targeting two major Russian banks -- Gazprom Bank and VEB -- and two energy companies -- Novotek and Rosneft.

They will not be able to get new medium- and long-term financing in the United States, senior administration officials told reporters in a conference call.

In addition, the new sanctions freeze any U.S. assets and prohibit American business contacts for eight Russian arms companies that make weapons, including small arms, mortars and surface-to-air missiles. One of the eight is the Kalashnikov Concern, maker of the AK-47 and other arms.

Argue against imposing sanctions on Russia if you'd like. But, you are painting this as if the executive order was about gun control. :jack:

The 7n6 ban had absolutely nothing to do with Russia in Crimea.
