I like the idea that evangelicals can be liberal. Some of the kindest people I know are evangelicals. The less christian conservatives have a stranglehold on the faith, the better. To my knowledge there is also nothing about Evangelical Protestant Christianity that says those things either. I guess you could say there is a tradition that Church is on Sunday. But I don't know of anything that says that HAS to be the day.

But here's the thing: Jesus did say that YOU are supposed to help the poor. This thing of acting as though it's "Christian" to petition government to make OTHER PEOPLE help the poor is a bunch of crap. The idea that your'e being "Christian" by voting in a way so as to make that rich guy over there help the poor is nonsense.

Something tells me 1) Jesus probably didn't have a ton of faith in the governments of his time, and 2). if he were around today, he wouldn't be walking around protesting government welfare programs.
