That was the most piss-poorly reffed game I've watched all season. Refs spend an entire season calling every stinking ticky-tack foul, the let these two teams play fucking rugby until about 8 minutes left in the game.
I don't really agree there. I only caught bits of the second half, but the first half was pretty well done. The Griz couldn't draw many fouls in the first half because they never did anything offensively that would make Weber foul them—it was just lazy contested jump shots and Krislovic's usual "touch" around the rim.
I watched the 2nd half only. It was comical how differently that game was reffed than any other game this season. And then, right on queue, the Weber coach gets a technical and suddenly the refs find their whistles, but ONLY against the Griz. 7 of the next 8 fouls called on the Griz. Really, just embarrassing for the BSC.

DeCuire had a (somewhat) different take:
"The technical changed the game," Montana coach Travis DeCuire said after the Griz dropped to 18-9 overall and 13-3 in the Big Sky with two games remaining in the regular season. "Once they got the tech they were the aggressor, we weren't. They end up on the free-throw line and we don't."
I thought this game was better officiated than most I've seen this year, and I thought all the stuff Weber fans were yelling about during the game were mostly legit no-calls. The foul disparity also can't be surprising: Weber ranks in the top-50 nationally in fewest fouls while Montana ranks in the bottom-25.

OK, let me clarify something: I PREFER games be officiated like this and let them play....it's more that THIS game was SO much differently officiated than any OTHER game this year....

Fair enough. The talking heads (Bilas, etc.) & the NCAA apparently want things to go in the other direction, though. It's like they want the rest of the country to be like the Big Sky in terms of officiating. :?

I'm confused, (not hard to accomplish), but I fail to see the problem. If ever there was a game that needed to reffed that way it was that game, and if you prefer games be reffed that way then what's the problem? The game I thought was pretty evenly reffed and both sides got away with a lot and bad calls went both teams' way, it's what happens in a Big Sky reffed game.

The problem is that there's a gigantic lack of consistency. Players have been playing to ONE level of expectation all year and then suddenly, in the biggest game of the year, the entire reffing crew decides to "let them play"? Just strange, that's all.

Something I stumbled upon for those (like me) that don't like Reno…

The Big South men's tournament is being held in Campbell's home gym in Buies Creek that houses about 3100 people. This is a predetermined site, too (Campbell actually finished tied for last). This would be like if the Big Sky made the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion in Greeley the permanent host for the BSC Tournament. :?

So… it could be a lot worse.

Mid-Week 10 Women's Standings

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

      1. Montana State _______14-3_____21-7_____ L1
      2. Eastern Washington__13-4_____19-10____ L1
      3. Idaho ________________13-4_____21-8_____ W1
      4. North Dakota ________12-5_____16-12____ W4

      11.Northern Arizona _____2-15_____6-22____ L8
      12.Southern Utah ________1-16_____3-24____ L1

Montana State will win the #1 seed with a win or an EWU loss. EWU needs the opposite. Idaho can share the title and therefore put up a banner, but it's impossible for them to be #1.

NoDak has clinched the #4-seed and Montana has clinched the #5-seed. That means these two will be playing again in the quarterfinals unless UM chokes against whoever finishes last.

Idaho State has also clinched the #9 seed. *Edit* - Northern Colorado has also clinched the #8-seed.

Any of the bottom-3 could end up being in last place. If it's a three-way tie (SUU beats PSU and NAU loses to Sac), the Lumberjacks will get last.

Weber has the tiebreaker for the #1-seed, but they have a much tougher game Saturday than Montana. The Griz host NoCo so at least a shared title for them is a virtual guarantee.

Whoever wins Idaho/Idaho State will get 3rd. outright. Idaho would also win any tiebreaker if they lose so they've clinched a first-round bye. The Bengals would need a NoDak loss to get a bye if they fall in Moscow.

EWU cannot get a bye.

Northern Colorado has clinched the #9-seed. Sac State has clinched the #10-seed.

NAU would win a tie for last with SUU, if anyone cares.

In today's lone afternoon tilt, NoDak came back from a 9-point halftime deficit to edge MSU on Senior Day at the Betty. That means we'll likely have a shared title on the women's side and it keeps EWU alive for the #1-seed and therefore the WNIT-at-worst position.

The Bobcats head into the Big Sky Tournament losing 3 of 5 (and they needed a miracle to beat ISU last week).

Well, the Bobcats still won their first-ever outright regular-season title because Idaho & EWU both choked. North Dakota seems to have the most momentum heading into the tournament by far, though.

In lesser games, SUU beat Portland State and Sac State murderalized NAU in Flagstaff. That means the 'Jacks will finish #12 after sitting at #10 for pretty much the whole season (and Suutah finishes #10 after being last most of the season).
