Assuming 75K for a new tesla, 25K for a new fuel car, 100,000 miles of driving, 40mpg fuel efficiency for a fuel car, gas/diesel would have to be about $20 a gallon to equal out. I am not factoring in the electricity to charge tesla either.

Teslas are cool I guess but I won't be buying one anytime soon.
I could be wrong but I think the new model they're introducing is in the 30-40 range.

Comparing a Tesla S to a $25K car is slightly misleading... and also kinda dumb
Now if you are a $25K car customer then SURE okay, let me save you some time
Tesla wasn't designed for YOU, please move along...

But there are a TON of $75K car guys in the world
and the Tesla S stands up well against that competition

:coffee:
You can buy a perfectly good, decently equipped car for 25K. And I do get that Tesla is not an average car but the math still holds. The price of an electric car has to come way down and then they will sell them. I also believe they have to get better with their range. :twocents:

Riiight... but let me put this is perspective the $71,500 TESLA S
beat every gas powered car under $100,000 in speed performance in 2014

The closest competitor was the $99,750 Nissan GT-R
The Corvette Z-0x at $88,000
The SRT Viper at $84,000
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG S at $99,700

Notice how the TESLA-S competition isn't priced at $25K

:coffee: 2.8 second 0-60 with a top speed of 148 don't come cheap

How many people are driving to utilize that speed?

Only people buying a car like that are people with more money than they can spend or those overcompensating for a small peen and shitty relationship.

I'm not arguing that ^
What I'm arguing is the idea that "I can buy a car for $25K blah blah blah..."

When talking about the TESLA S you're talking about one of the worlds fastest high performance cars
and it should reasonably be compared to other world class cars

If you use the mode (I forget the exact name but it is similar to P90x insanity iirc) where you can drag race with the Tesla, your range is going to plummet. You do a couple of runs from a dig and you'll be stranded on the road on the way home. It's a "neat" feature, but very impractical.

And here I thought we were talking about how electrics were going to take over the auto industry while saving the environment and us money. :suspicious:

yes but isn't the whole idea to put them in everyman's garage so we can save the planet?

why would millionaires drive souped up golf carts while us peons still drive around in muscle cars with our dicks hanging out

The MODE is actually called "Ludicrous Mode"
The vehicle has I believe 3 modes of selection - not including Full Automatic where the vehicle drives for you as long as you are in the drivers seat with your seat belt on...

2.8 seconds in Ludicrous Mode

He may quit making them to be able to fill battery orders..
Oh, I absolutely expect he'll quit making them, as soon as he reaches the tipping point (see what I did there 8-) ) on the battery production and power distribution systems....
