your own statement is contradictory - i've never found a "liberal" campus to have banned the GOP. THAT is tolerance... not supporting a schools decision to make itself an arm of a political party.
?? Not sure I follow you on being contradictory. I did not claim to know of any liberal schools banning the GOP clubs.

Colleges are tax exempt, and this status has nothing to do with whether the schools advocate political positions, theology or discriminate. This is not to be confused with churches being political (like every AME I have ever been to). The central argument in the VMI-The Citadel gender cases was that those schools were public and accepted public funds. The argument that private schools also accept public funds did not hold water with the courts. In fact, the central decision behind the VMI/Cit cases revolved around their status as state-supported institutions. What those cases inadvertently did was give tacit approval to private schools doing whatever the hell they want to. All female schools still discriminate based on gender, yet they were deemed untouchable by Judge C. Weston Houck and the Federal Court in Charleston. I believe the 4th District also supported this.
No way Liberty gets penalized for this, and they shouldn't be. Again, if a public school did this, then you'd have a beef.
Good points.....swayed my opinion on this issue....consistency...

I don't agree with booting the club, but then I don't send my money to Liberty, either. Like it or not, fundamentalists are as entitled to their belief system as much as anyone else, and quite frankly as much as I disagree with their beliefs I am not threatened by them and neither are any of you.

I thought we were supposed to celebrate diversity.

The point is that those same colleges don't kick College Republican b/c of the RNC's platform. Difference of opinion is welcomed unlike Liberty. Exclusivity is something that is not tolerated in my world. Except for KKK, skinheads, Nazi, you know race superiority complexes. :D

Wow. You guys fell for these kids' lies hook, lie, and sinker.

At no point was the club not allowed to meet on campus.

At no point did anyone say that you couldn't be a Democrat and a Christian.

The club's official sponsor from the school was revoked so that they couldn't get funding from the school because they lied about who they would support. Their constitution says they are pro-life and think marriage is between a man and a woman but they then went and said they were in line completely with the Democratic National Convention which goes against those two things. Supporting those two issues goes against the mission of the school so there is no way the school is going to give money and support to something that goes against its mission.

The school then offered to let them be a fully supported club if they were to align themselves with a pro-life Democratic group as opposed to the DNC.

These kids were used by the Democratic party, especially in Virgnia. There's a gubernatorial race where the Democratic candidates aren't doing too well. With this stuff coming out, their numbers jumped a little bit. However, the stuff that some of the people, especially the faculty advisor, has been saying has been proven to be lies.

There's stuff coming out about what they lied about and how things really went down. They went straight to the media and when you have 18-20 year old kids getting told something by the Democratic leaders that they look up to, a lot of times they just go along with it whether it's true or not. Hopefully in the next day or so they'll release their apology and retraction. Granted, it's not gonna get the publicity that the original story did, but at least it'll be made public that they didn't tell the truth about everything.

They also then need to kick the conks out as they support gay marriage, i.e. Log Cabin Republicans... ;)

Good clarification, SuperJon.

Liberty, as many have mentioned, is a private school and I'm not comfortable even with whether the fact that they receive federal funding for things is enough to "crucify" them (pardon the pun) over this. As such, I will err on the side of them having the right to dispense with that club.

As well, reactionaries and gross generalizers like AZGF have no credibility on this debate as they show their over-the-top ass with comments such as his.

Shame, Z.

Isn't it un-Christian like to judge? WAFJ. These wankers need to not alienate thier students this way. It can do as it pleases, but would you really want to quell the voice of some students?

They only want students who adhere to their moral and religious standards, they could care less about you if you go against them. I've known numerous Liberty students who've received reprimands or been kicked out for conduct that goes against the founding principles of the school. Yes, Christians are a diverse group of people... but diversity to a certain extent, is not allowed a private christian conservative school.
