Quick question that I'm seeing analysts bring up, but do you think the GOP as we've known it is dead? If you have such a strong split in ideologies within party members that we're speaking of sabotage now, don't you essentially have two parties that are simply sharing the same name (even if they don't realize it yet)?

It would appear the same could be said of the DNC as we've known it, given Bernie's success with the millennials.

The way I see it, the voters should decide on what the party is, not the other way around.
I look at what each candidate has to say and decide who to vote for. I don't give a crap if it is R or D or G or L or X.
Almost always, it ends up being R. But there are clearly candidates at the Congress, State, and Local levels that I have no idea what their platform is. At that point, I choose R based on the odds.

Kasich is ripping the tits off tonight's debate while the three stooges poke each other in the face.

Say what you want about InfoWars, but their source last week was absolutely correct about the Koch Brothers/Mitt Romney strategy to smear and, if possible, block Trump and have Romney become the candidate. If they are successful, I will vow never to vote Republican again in my lifetime:

I think it will backfire. I was listening to Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity yesterday (for the entertainment value) and every single caller was disgusted with Mittens. Glenn and Sean weren't happy with his Anti-Trump passion when he showed none for Obama. People feel betrayed and, it's no secret, that many of the callers specifically stated that voting for Trump is a "middle finger" to Washington.

Mitt is a dork. He's weaker than Rubio and that's saying something.

I might be overthinking this, but If Rubio dropped out and threw his support and got his delegates to support Cruz, could that be enough for the GOP "establishment" to stop Trump?

I don't think Mittens will get it done, and fighting at the convention will only weaken them further.

Listened to some news talk radio on the drive home yesterday. Basically the conk establishment strategy is to keep all the candidates in so Trump can't get the needed delegates to win the nomination outright. That will force an open convention in which the establishment can then rig it against Trump so either Cruz or Rubio will get the nod. We knew the establishment conks were done when the tea parties ran them over, but now Trump is going to finish of the party.

I can see it now. Establishment Conks brokering the convention only to hand the ball off to Rubio. Both Trump and Bernie going independent. That will be a total **** storm.
It would be wonderful to behold but I don't think it happens - if Bernie and Trump go independent they will both receive more votes than the establishment candidates and further highlight the growing disconnect between the political elites and the voters. Really it's a hell of a conundrum for the RNC and the DNC. They need Sanders and Trump, in the words of LBJ, "inside the tent pissing out".

I listened to Romney on Today this morning and he said twice that he couldn't foresee being a candidate in this race - but he's a politician, so take his word for what it's worth. Trump is a buffoon and I really don't want to see him get the nomination, but to yank it from him at the convention (assuming he has enough delegates) and put someone else in is the republican equivalent of the democrat superdelegate BS. When party leadership determines who is the nominee and ignores popular sentiment it will completely disenfranchise voters since it's a waste of time. :twocents:

After Romney attacked Trump in a blistering speech Thursday morning, Trump hit back by mocking Romney's 2012 loss at a campaign rally in Portland, Maine -- pointing to Romney's efforts to secure Trump's endorsement.

"He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, 'Mitt, drop to your knees' -- he would have dropped to his knees," he said.

Parties change and adapt all the time. Not everyone in either party fully buys the party line. Heck, the Dems talk all the time about how big their tent is. Heck, even when the GOP has been sweeping elections (other than President) everywhere else the GOP guy winning in Mississippi is selling something different than the GOP guy winning in Massachusetts. But yes, the GOP is certainly changing at this time.
