Conservative Populism

Post by kalm »

(Stealing from another thread.)

It does exist. This is the positive, reasonable side of it.
Now we have the political establishment going to their billionaire check writers to fund their banal super PACs. Super PACs have become a way for the GOP to avoid talking to voters. Luckily, the super PACs have proven to be impotent, and if donors are dumb enough to dump another $50 million into the corrupt political-consultant sinkhole, so be it.

The same party elites who have told us that we conservatives have to hold our noses and vote for Bob Dole or George W. Bush or Romney now say they will bolt the party if Trump is the nominee. Who's going to hand the election to Clinton in this spat? The party is cracking up. It's the establishment and the check writers versus the working class in America.

I thought "working class America" was largely Democratic

sounds like someone has inadvertently stumbled across why the two best people the Democratic Party has to offer are only polling a few points ahead of the Antichrist Fascist OMFG Trump

Interesting POV, but it's factually incorrect in one big way. These Trump voters are not long-term Republicans. They're not even conservatives. They're just following the charismatic figurehead, and they couldn't care less about remaking the GOP along more "centrist" lines (socially liberal/ economically conservative, but don't touch my entitlements). If Drumpf loses, they'll just flock to the next rich guy who promises them everything.

Agreed although Sanders' RCP average is +8. He's old school Dem. Clinton further jeopardizes the party's standing with the working class. Because........?

Oh they're conservatives...
Why do you think the "build a wall" gets standing ovations at Trump rallies
And "we used to be great" the oldest Republican mantra of them all - gets rousing applause

Like I told you back in September of 2015
Trump will win the Republican nomination and you didn't believe me

I know the Republican base better than you "George Will Republicans" do...
I wish we had a country of George Will Republicans but we don't
and no amount of wishing and hoping will change that

Their conservatism is mighty selective, then. Trumpies aren't free-traders, they oppose entitlement reform, and they aren't necessarily pro-life. Of course, Trump himself flip-flops on immigration, as the H1B kerfuffle shows. Keep on reading, Chizz, and get ready to pay up on that bet.

I just posted something like this in another thread. This guy is missing something that is going on. It's not just the Republican Establishment that doesn't like Trump. There are an awful lot of people who were formally viewed as Republican Party insurgents that absolutely cannot stand Trump. It IS a hostile takeover. The people this guy is talking are not "new Republicans." They're not really Republicans. They are people who are voting in Republican primaries because that's where they have to go in order to vote for Trump.

As I think I wrote in another thread I heard the earlier this week that 48 percent of Republicans either say they absolutely will NOT vote for Trump in the general election or that they are not LIKELY to vote for Trump in the general election.

It's not just the "Establishment."

Some will not vote at all. Some will try to find "third party" candidates to vote for.

Me personally? As I have written on this board I will probably vote "third party" if Trump wins the Republican nomination. But there is even a possibility that I will vote for the Democrat. If it looks like Louisiana is contested I will do that.

The reason? I disagree with Hillary and Bernie. But at least they are sane, rational human beings. Trump has several screws loose. He is dangerous. You can't put a whack job like that into that position. You just can't.

Burney wants to increase spending by $18 TRILLION DOLLARS and The Hildabeast is the most fake, flawed, corrupt, and probably the most psychologically imbalanced candidate to ever run for President.

It is the Establishment. It's the Republican "overlords", "elites", "gatekeepers" whatever you want to call them, that don't like Trump. The establishment, the base is voting for him.

If 48% of Republicans say they won't vote for Trump, then explain his success. It's not Democrats fleeing the left.
