It's an emotionally-maniputalitve propaganda film with dishonest editing and placement of statements from Sea World trainers that's short on actual scientific credibility and facts.
And oddly, SeaWorld management did exactly what it proposed.

The same types of people caused a cancellation of Trump's rally in Chicago, caused the President of U. of Missouri to resign, and are responsible for the reduction of MSG and gluten.

It's time for a political war in the streets, or find a new country. :coffee:

You mean to tell me that the ruckus that the protesters caused in the arena had nothing to do with the cancellation?

Too late. I want my MSG.

Very little to do with it - Trump turned tail and fled on his own.

Like his rally he is holding in Phoenix area Saturday - he is going to have it in a white, wealthy, retirement area.

He actually wanted it in Mormon Mesa, but Sanders booked the facility 30 minutes before he did

This.

But if you believe that orcas belong in a pool and if you believe they aren't smart enough to get pissed off enough to take out a few trainers from time to time then I hope you enjoy your day at SeaWorld.

People should not own dogs while living in an apartment in the city. And horses should not race, or pull stage coaches in Montana. And Grizzly bears should not be offended by being mascots for bad football teams.

I've seen Pwns take this type of "sunk cost fallacy" argument before regarding human endeavors...
"Why try to protect sea mammals and not sting rays etc.."
"why do this - when that - already happens" etc. etc..

its one of the favorite pseudo scientific "Why am I the only adult in the room" arguments

the answer lies in the idea that why shouldn't humans seek to find themselves or understand themselves by how they treat animals... by starting with Intelligent Mammals etc.

The pseudo scientific "why this animal and not that animal"
is better asked - why not..?
Lets start there and look to improve as we go

Because we have to start somewhere

Whoa there hoss! I'm not sure I want to go down that path just yet...

Because it's delicious?
Because these feathers are purty?
Because this fur keeps me warm?
Because it makes me laugh when it jumps?
Because fooling a highly educated trout on a size 18 blue winged olive is really, really fun?

Because I'm still a selfish big dumb ape not nearly in touch enough with my world?

What is the end-point you have in mind, Chizz? Abolition of factory farming for red-meat animals? Abolition of use of animals strictly for entertainment purposes?

You realize pigs are arguably smarter than orcas and most outside the primate family? You going to give up pork to protest the overcrowded factory farms they live in?

I'm not opposed to standards for treatment of animals, but you don't get to apply different standards for different animals based on how awesome or majestic or fluffy and cute they are. Hardly anyone outside of PETA is going to complain about chimpanzees in captivity or being used for entertainment because they aren't considered "cool".

And where do you draw the line for what constitutes intelligent animals, anyways?

So how will this end?
The capture of orcas ended years ago. SeaWorld stated that it will end the internal reproduction of them. So, if 93's statistics are correct, the whales should all die off in about 20 years or so. Or maybe sooner if they are released to the ocean.

SeaWorld also said it will end the shows. This will likely reduce the revenue that they generate. Revenue that is used to rescue and rehabilitate distressed animals in the wild. So when a dolphin or manatee is found in distress, you can forget about getting assistance from SeaWorld.
In the movie "Patton", General Bradley shows his displeasure with Patton's rapid push across Sicily, claiming that many lives were lost for moving too fast. Patton replies "General Bradley......it's time to consider how many
casualties we'd have......if we were still crawling on that goddamn road."

Education: I could understand the argument that we probably know all we need to know about orcas at this point in time. So anything else that we could learn from them is probably small compared to the data we have gained to date. So I would agree that the education has probably run it's course.

Glad this is happening. Having grown up in SD, I always hated Sea World. Not just because of the Shamu thing (anyone with a brain knows a whale doesn't belong in a tank) but because the SD Zoo is WWWWAAAAAYYYY better than SW, and does a hell of a lot more for environmental conservation that SW ever does.

Also SW charges for parking and the Zoo doesn't. :D

So yeah, if you need me tomorrow night, I'll be at the Shark In The Dark overnight program with my sons and our scout pack at Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ. True story!

If you are going to be in Camden, NJ overnight, the "shark in the dark" is not going to be in the water.
Just sayin.

We did that one last year with the Scouts. Wasn't terrible, but just a small aquarium so you feel like you run out of stuff. We did get to sleep in the room with the sharks, though, so that was cool.

Did the Natural History museum this winter - I heard the one at the Penn Museum is pretty cool.
