Well hell, I may have to root for villanova anyway...
2 Kris Jenkins - Gonzaga College High School
3 Josh Hart Guard - Sidwell Friends
5 Phil Booth - Mount Saint Joseph
10 Donte DiVincenzo - Salesianum
52 Kevin Rafferty - Malvern Prep
Have some kind of ties to all of these HS's.

Big East starts out 3-1 with X left to play. Looks consistent with the OOC results this year.

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
You were even giddier last year when they started out just as well if not better. Should pull some of those threads up. At least you are more subdued this year. Looks like disappointments from years past have tempered your enthusiasm. Seeing Seton Hall looking outclassed by a flawed Gonzaga team, less than a week from Seton Hall's triumph in New York, will do that. nova and Xavier, based on their seeding, have great chances to make the Sweet 16. Both will have tough Sweet 16 games, though, against lesser seeds.vutomcat wrote:Big East starts out 3-1 with X left to play. Looks consistent with the OOC results this year.
Middle Tennessee St might be able to make the Sweet 16 - the way they were shooting they could cause problems for 'Cuse. Heck, Duke might have a good path to the Regional Final, even the Final Four, considering how the West bracket is looking and considering that Charles Barkley may have been wrong and the Pac 12 was way overrated.

2014 - 4 bids, 3 in Round of 32, 0 in Sweet 16
2015 - 6 bids, 4 in Round of 32, 1 in Sweet 16
2016 - 5 bids, 3 or 4 in Round of 32
The key will be how the teams do this weekend and then next week hopefully. That is what the conference needs to do to show that the top of the conference is strong.
Of Conferences with multiple bids
ACC showing to be the class of the NCAA so far going 5-0 with 2 games to go.
PAC-12 the laughing stock with 1-5 and 1 (Oregon) to go.
Big 10 3 of 5 advanced with 2 to go (both versus the ACC)
Big 12 3 of 5 advanced with 2 to go (3 WVU and 6 Texas)
Big East is 3 of 4 with 1 to go (2 Xavier)
AAC is 1 of 3 with 1 to go (9 Cincy)
SEC is 1 of 2 with 1 to go (3 Texas A&M)
A-10 is 1 of 2 with 1 to go (8 St. Joes)
MVC is 1 of 1 with 1 to go (11 UNI)

Agree tribe. Big East has been excellent OOC and first round of tournament the last two years. Rubber meets the road this weekend. Pac 12 results embarrassing. Big 10 not much better. ACC class of the field.

Don't be putting words in my mouth. You say that Big East was excellent in the First Round last year going 4-2 but Big 10 is not much better than embarrassing when they were 3-2. Now they are 4-2 which by your definition must mean they are excellent. Nice fine line between excellence and embarrassment.vutomcat wrote:tribe_pride wrote:

Easy big boy. Wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. Iowa slipped over Temple, I think, after I posted that. I was counting chickens before they hatched. then Wisconsin beat Pitt. Big 10 is doing ok. Big East doing better. X is thrashing Weber state.

Bracketology: Which conferences are doing the best during March Madness

Saturday, 3/19: The ACC continues to roll on with all four teams that played on Saturday advancing to the Sweet 16. Notre Dame and Syracuse will try to join the party on Sunday.
The Pac-12 lost another team in an upset, at least by seed. Utah was crushed by Gonzaga, leaving the league with just Oregon left to carry the banner.
We say good bye to the Ivy League, Sun Belt and American conferences, which had their final teams eliminated on Saturday.
Friday, 3/18: College basketball has been on a season-long bender, and it certainly hasn't sobered up for the NCAA Tournament.
Upsets littered the regular season, creating a bracket with teams below the usual standard from top to bottom. With even less separation than usual in the middle of the bracket, it only makes sense that we have had more upsets than usual. It makes you wonder if you can even use the word "upset" any more.
Surely you can with Middle Tennessee State's stunning win over Michigan State. The Spartans shot 56% and still lost. They weren't even all that bad, but the Blue Raiders were playing at what former Purdue coach Gene Keady called the "magic level." Sometimes, it's just the other team's day. That was one of two upsets suffered by the Big Ten. Purdue gagged away a 13-point lead with 3:30 to go and lost in double overtime to Little Rock.
The Big 12 and Pac-12, the two best leagues in the regular season, have taken it on the chin in the tournament. In the Pac-12's defense, Cal lost two starters the day before their game due to injury and Oregon State was playing shorthanded already. Arizona isn't off the hook though. Wichita State beat Sean Miller's team a lot worse than the 10-point margin would indicate. It was a rough 24 hours for the Millers, as Archie's team got beat by Syracuse.
West Virginia and Baylor got drilled by Stephen F. Austin and Yale respectively. Yale was playing shorthanded, which makes their win over the Bears especially head-scratching. Texas lost when Paul Jesperson of Northern Iowa hit a half-court shot at the buzzer. At the same time, Cincinnati was having a game-tying dunk at the buzzer wiped off because it was a hair too late. That was an appropriate ending for a wild first round.
Needless to say, it was a record year for upsets in the opening round. It was the first time ever that a 13-, 14- and 15-seed won on the same day. There are a record number double-digit seeds in the second round. We had everything but a No. 16 seed beating a No. 1 seed. Can't wait to see what this weekend has in store.
The first record is the league's record in tournament games. The second record is "upsets": wins as a lower seed-losses as a higher seed. Teams have to be more than one seed apart to count in the upset record.

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
Well to recap:
Villanova looked very very good - blew out both games over the weekend.
St. Joe's had the upset sitting in their lap with 4 minutes to go & couldn't finish.
The Pac-12. SEC & Big East all came up small - each with just one team left.
It's an ACC world & we're just living in it. 12-1 with a record 6 teams in the Sweet 16. Don't forget the ACC dominated last year too.

And nobody ever mistook the SEC for a good basketball conference this year. They came up unsurprisingly small this year except some would have expected Kentucky instead of A&M like last year many would have expected Nova instead of Xavier in the Big East.

The Big East was a paper tiger once again.
Only the PAC12 fared worse.
Damn, I remember when the Big East played good basketball. These days, the Big East doesn't have any depth to keep up with the serious basketball conferences.

I give Nova credit - they've now made it further than I had them going. All 4 games last night weren't close.

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
Well, cutting through the hyperbole on both sides, it looks like Nova is a darn good basketball team and the Big East is an above average conference. Nova gets an A and the Big East gets a B on the report card? ACC is an A+, Big Ten and Big 12 A-?
Did I get this right? I really don't follow monkey ball much. I try to restrict it to March, sort of like restricting the NHL until after the tax deadline and the NBA to never.

Nova has looked very good. Believe Kansas was the overall #1 seed. Should be a good one. Will be interesting to see if Nova can keep up that 3 point percentage.
