My guess though is that Metropolitan gets 5 teams in and Atlantic only 3 which would automatically push the 4th place team in the Metro to the Atlantic for the playoffs.

Not saying that the WC team will beat Florida or TB (whoever wins the Atlantic) but that is an easier road than having to go through Washington and Pittsburgh.
I agree that 4th in the Metro is a better place than 3rd. In 3rd you aren't getting home ice anyway.

The Flyers, Red Wings, and Bruins all fighting for that last precious playoff spot. :thumb:

The Flyers better pray it doesn't come down to having to beat the Pens on Saturday.

Shit, the Flyers have a game to worry about before Saturday. They play the Red Wings tonight on NBCSN! I know what I'm watching tonight...playoffs have already started.

And then finish up @Rangers on Saturday who may be tanking to get in the Atlantic Division for the playoffs. Looks like it is between Rangers and Islanders for who is in the 3rd and 4th place in the Metropolitan (though Isles could slip to 5th and final WC spot). Rangers 2 points ahead of Islanders but Isles have 1 more game to play.

Here is the schedule for the Eastern Conference teams fighting for 3rd in division and Wild Card Spots:
  • Wednesday
    Philly @ Detroit

    Thursday
    Toronto @ Philly
    Detroit @ Boston
Isles @ Rangers - If Rangers win in regulation, Rangers automatically finish in 3rd no matter what else happens and Isles could take either WC spot.

    Saturday
    Pitt @ Philly
    Detroit @ Rangers
    Buffalo @ Isles
    Ottawa @ Boston

    Sunday
    Philly @ Isles

Red Wings go 2 points up on Boston and Philadelphia, and can clinch a playoff spot with a win in Boston tonight. Flyers have the advantage of an extra game on both teams.

Looks like the Flyers finally realized they're a Philly team in the 2010's.

Well that was a pretty fucking boring game. Philly knew they had a pretty good chance of making the playoffs before that game, right?

Flyers can't clinch tonight and playing Pens and Isles over the weekend is very scary to me.

Lucky for the Flyers that the Bruins are shitting the bed. It will not surprise me if the Flyers finish out the season 0-3 and still make the playoffs.

Unfortunately, Flyers finish 0-3 they are out. Bruins currently have the first tiebreaker over them (regulation/overtime wins)

Correct. If they finish 0-3 (it would be 0-4), they don't deserve to be in the playoffs. If both lose out, the Caps should get a first round bye.

Flyers pissing it all away. Down 3-1 to Leafs. Bruins leading Red Wings 3-1. All the Flyers had to do was get five points in their final five games and they're o'fer the first three of those. If tonight's results hold, the Flyers give up control of their own destiny to the Bruins. Pathetic.

Huge come back by Philly to get 1 point in OT but loss on a questionable noninterference call on the goal.

East is really shaping up

Metropolitan:
1 - Caps - Clinched
2 - Pitt - Clinched

Better finisher finishes in 3rd place to pay Pitt/ Worse finisher finishes in 4th place to move to Atlantic and play Tampa
Isles - 99 Pts, 40 R/O wins - 2 games to go (Buffalo/Philly)
Rangers - 99 Pts, 42 R/O wins - 1 game to go (Detroit)

Atlantic;
1 - TB - Clinched
2 - Florida - Clinched

Better Finisher 3rd Place to play Florida
Detroit - 93 Pts, 39 R/O wins - 1 game to go (@Rangers)
Boston - 93 Pts, 38 R/O wins - 1 game to go (Ottawa)

Better of (worse of Detroit/Boston) and Philly to move to or stay in Metropolitan to play Caps
Detroit - 93 Pts, 39 R/O wins - 1 game to go (@Rangers)
Boston - 93 Pts, 38 R/O wins - 1 game to go (Ottawa)
Philly - 92 Pts, 36 R/O wins - 2 games to go (Pitt, @NYI)

All 8 spots are taken in the West but the top 3 teams in each division still have a chance to win the division. Nashville will move to the Pacific Wild Card while Minnesota will stay as the Central Wild Card team.

Glad they could manage a point. Could be the one that gets them in, but I doubt it. Win twice and they're in.

Wings got their asses handed to them last night, but they still control their own destiny. Tie breakers are all in their favor. I'd rather they were playing the Avs than the Rangers in the last game though.

Well Flyers, it's all on you now. Bruins and Red Wings both end their seasons with losses today and you still have two games left. All you gotta do is win one.

So Philly needs one win in two games to get the last spot right?

It looks like this playoff run will be the last in the NHL for Pavel Datsyuk. He's all but certain to go back to Russia when they are over. I can't blame him, he has a daughter there who just turned 13. He wants to be a dad.

It will still be a $7 million plus cap hit next season though.
