It will still be a $7 million plus cap hit next season though.

Aww heck! Datsyuk seems like an alright dude, especially for a Red Wing.93henfan wrote:All the Flyers vs Red Army talk in the Ed Snider thread has GF feeling feisty.
Re: NHL Playoffs
The hobbled Bolts had a tough fight with Wings, but prevailed late. This series could go 7 games if Tampa doesn't get healthier soon.
The Blues and Blackhawks played a tough defensive game and St. Louis pulled it out late. If Elliott can keep up his outstanding play, the Blues have a legitimate shot to take out the defending champs, but this series is going to be a war.
Overall, the Pens didn't play very well, but their 3rd string goalie was lights out. Pens dominated the Rangers, again. This could be a quick series, but I see the Rangers squeaking out one game at home.

Re: NHL Playoffs
My God is the Capitals' PK team ever good. Flyers looked like they were the short handed team on their first powerplay.

Re: NHL Playoffs
Flyers only got 14 SOG last night. 8 after the first period when they had three power plays. Should be a short series. Flyers also lost Couturier (left shoulder) after he was destroyed by Ovechkin.

Re: NHL Playoffs
That was a pretty entertaining game though. Even though the Flyers didn't have many shots, they did have opportunities. Not going to get many of those past Holtby if he's on his game though, which he was.93henfan wrote:Flyers only got 14 SOG last night. 8 after the first period when they had three power plays. I hope the refs aren't going to call the whole series so tightly. Can't let the obvious calls go (like the 6th man on the ice for the Flyers...I think he's still out there), but there were some penalties that they could have easily ignored.
Oh, and on even playing ice, not many players are going to win the check battle against Ovi. Lesson learned for Couterererer I guess.
Re: NHL Playoffs
It still bothers me to see such a pussified Flyers team on the ice after all the tough teams of the 70s and 80s. I would have been pissed if I was a Caps fan at the ticky tack calls against them in the first period. The Flyers did that shit to the other team on every shift back in the day. The games would have been five hours (instead of four ) if they called everything on the Broad St Bullies.bandl wrote:That was a pretty entertaining game though. That was calculated on the Caps side to get Simmonds out of the game.Baldy wrote:93, whatcha think of the "fight" between Simmonds and Wilson last night?93henfan wrote:

Coutererer was already out, Giroux was being sandy, and with Simmonds out they lost their top scorer for the rest of the game.
But yes, vagina-massaging all the way around.

Re: NHL Playoffs
That was a turrible decision by Simmonds, turrible. The Flyers were down 1, with 6 or 7 minutes left & going on the power play & Simmonds decides to appease Ed Snider hockey & throw the gloves down at that point in time. Whatever chances the Flyers had last night were just flushed right there.Baldy wrote:

They swallowed their whistles on one shift late in the third though. In a 30 second run the Caps held the stick, tripped a guy and had a blatant interference all resulting in turnovers.bandl wrote:I hope the refs aren't going to call the whole series so tightly. BTW, Alzner on that last second hit swung his stick at the Flyer hitting him on top of the helmet. Wasn't a hard hit, but if they're going to be consistent, he should be out the next couple games. You can't purposefully hit a guy in the head with your stick.

Because Marty McSorley did it to a negro once, IIRC.

Every team needs a dirty player, otherwise you'll just get knocked all over the place. Can you imagine a team full of Crosby's trying to fight?Baldy wrote:I was hoping the'd knock each other out. Both are dirty.bandl wrote: That was calculated on the Caps side to get Simmonds out of the game.

But Simmonds is a much better all-around player than Wilson. Wilson is the Caps goon, and proud of it. Simmonds should have known better than to fall for it. Honestly, that's usually the kind of thing that the Caps fall for.

There's a difference between being a goon and taking cheap shots. Wilson likes to board players and Simmonds is world famous for sucker punching.bandl wrote:Every team needs a dirty player, otherwise you'll just get knocked all over the place.
