Re: 2016 NASCAR thread
Fucking Ty Dillon
Bitch goes down a tire and refuses to go get it changed. That initially caused Cassill to have to check up and lose spots. Cassill gets back to him and he still hasn't changed his tire so Cassill had to make a move to try to get around him, because down a tire means keep blocking for position, which cause the two to get together. Landon needs to fight to keep a top 20 now.
Fuck Ty Dillon. He's the one that ran into the back of Cassill because he couldn't keep control of his car during qualifying.

JGR (Carl Edwards) won. They must have done something right.
Hey, did everyone see that crossover move by Jr at the end to regain 2nd from Ku Busch? My nigga!!

But there's no reason to worry that you've lost me watching NASCAR. No.93henfan wrote:Yeah, the spring race is rarely if ever a sellout at Bristol, but that's particularly bad. Re: 2016 NASCAR thread
I've watched more nascar this year than any other year. All because I'm more invested in how Cassill does than I ever was with Jeff Gordan.
Cassill can more than handle himself when it comes to car control, or what the UNI beat writer (he also does race coverage for IMCA dirt racing in Iowa and is a massive race fan) said was "Dude can wheel with the best of them."
Apparently Cassill has impressed most in NASCAR circles. Will it lead to a bigger team? Impossible to know right now. I hope it does. From what I can tell from people on Cedar Rapids that know him, his social media stuff, and everything else he's a genuinely good dude.
I just want to see what he could do in a car that wasn't handicapped to barely 30-35th best quality, in terms of performance, from the start of the race.

Not really. Fox has reported stellar ratings the past several years. NASCAR has conceded gate for Nielsen for awhile now.89Hen wrote:But there's no reason to worry that you've lost me watching NASCAR. Pretty tough to report future ratings...89Hen wrote:93henfan wrote:

NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Texas earned a 2.5 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, down 14% from last year (2.9) and the lowest overnight ever for a Sprint Cup race on FOX. The 2.5 is also the lowest ever for the spring Texas race (dates back to 1997).
NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Auto Club Speedway earned a 3.5 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon, down 13% from last year and 2014 (4.0 both years) and the lowest overnight for the race since rain-shortened coverage drew a 3.4 in 2012.
Continuing a rough start to the season, NASCAR's second race of the season scored its lowest overnight since FOX acquired rights. NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Atlanta earned a 3.7 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon, down 27% from last year (5.1) and the lowest overnight for the second race of the season since FOX began airing races in 2001.

Re: 2016 NASCAR thread
Texas had a two plus hour rain delay. That explains the low viewership.
Martinsville ratings were up from last year.
Overall, NASCAR ratings are down slightly, down about the same as the Masters was last week. I doubt executives are sweating either.
The NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Game was down 37% this year, and I doubt that sport is going to fail either.

Title game was on TBS this year, not CBS. Much smaller potential viewership.
I don't get TBS. I also won't get any race in FS1 or TNT

Yeah pathetic crowd Sun. My 1st Spring race at Bristol. I've been to 2 Aug races (13' about 3/4 full (100-120k) and last Aug was packed. I read a sellout. Capacity is now 153k (was 160k) . Awesone crowds and atmosphere at the Aug night races, obviously not the Spring race. I read on Jayski that the attendance was 90k. 90k my arse- never looked more than about 1/3 full that you all saw on TV. Girlfriend and I were the only 2 in our upper Turn 2 row (Earnhardt Terrace) seats..clenz wrote:I don't ever expect to see a full motor speedway watching a race, but this one is bad
As far as the racing goes I think it was the best of the 3 races I've been..

Yeah I was wondering what was causing all the cut/blown JGR tires. Happened 7 times: Busch 3 times and Hamlin and Kennseth each 2. I saw on Race Hub yesterday that that is what McReynolds thought might have been the cause.93henfan wrote:JGR quite obviously got too aggressive with their RF tire camber today. And a lot of guys with loose tires. With NASCAR no longer mandating 5 lug nuts teams only going with 4 and if they only get tight getting loose tires, esp at tracks like Bristol with the heavy loads on the tires. Had to be close to a double digit # of times guys having to come back in because only got 2-3 nuts tight...

Re: 2016 NASCAR thread
I thought the racing was awesome.
Like I said, I've been a casual NASCAR fan - and that's all I'll ever be. I don't get involved with the off track issues. I don't understand race car set ups. I never will. I'm not a car guy. Landon Cassill will get me to watch races more than Jeff Gordon or Dale Jr.
What I watched on Sunday was the most entertaining race I remember. I don't normally make a point to try to watch every lap, but I couldn't turn it off after I turned it on. The way Jimmy and Almindinger were fighting for the lucky dog with about 100 left when they thought there'd be a debris caution was intense.
If Landon finds a better team/funding and can run top 20 consistently I'll definitely watch more and more.

I kept wondering how so many teams could have vibrations and loose wheels. That's interesting to read.

I'll be at RIR on Sunday to see the Smoke Rise!! BTW the 1st (scheduled) Sunday Race at RIR in 18 years. When I 1st saw that on the calendar I tbought it had to be a mistake..
BTW RIR recently eliminated another about another 11k seats. Now entire backstretch gone. From a place that use to hold to about 112k now down to 60k. Last sold out a race April 2008. After 33 straight sellouts haven't sold out a race since..

Re: 2016 NASCAR thread
NASCAR announces this afternoon back to mandating 5 lug nuts.
http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/n ... uts-042516
Basically now doing what NASCAR fined Tony Stewart last week for saying that they should do.
Thing is, NASCAR didn't say how they were going to enforce it. Problem is with no more officials over the walls, which they did away with for last season, how are they going to ensure that each team even has 5 nuts on every wheel, much less 5 that are tight? They replaced the officials over the wall with high tech zoomable HD video, but that can only see the right side of the car. Maybe bring back the 2 officials for every pit, to see if 5 nuts are glued to each of the 4 tires to be used at each stop, and the officials instead of over the wall as in the past could from behind the wall see if all 5 on each of left side tires was hit and the video could show if all 5 right sides was hit? But that would mandate bringing back a boatload of more officials, which I thought was eliminated in a long term cost saving (and safety as far as no more officials over the wall) measures compared to the video..
One thing they can do is post race check to see if 5 tight nuts on each wheel, so for what ends up being the last pit stop the crews better get 5 nuts on tight..
