Bang on the average working class.

My kids will, hopefully, fall into the next one up.
Scoring

You got 77 points.

The higher your score, the thinner your bubble. The lower, the more insulated you might be from mainstream American culture.

See below for scores Charles Murray would expect you to get based on the following descriptions.

48–99: A lifelong resident of a working-class neighborhood with average television and movie going habits. Typical: 77.

42–100: A first-generation middle-class person with working-class parents and average television and movie going habits. Typical: 66.

11–80: A first-generation upper-middle-class person with middle-class parents. Typical: 33.

0–43: A second-generation (or more) upper-middle-class person who has made a point of getting out a lot. Typical: 9.

0–20: A second-generation (or more) upper-middle-class person with the television and movie going habits of the upper middle class. Typical: 2.

Yep....it's an interesting way to sort the salt of the earth people, ain't it.

It looks like bandle and I are essentially the same person. He's just got 15ish years on me in terms of getting a head on life.

How's that make you feel?

Not really. I would bet a lot of white liberals who live in suburbs of major cities would score rock bottom on this if they answered honestly.

Eh. You both eat at Chili's five nights a week and got lucky on the Jimmie Johnson question. That's all.

Doesn't make any sense. You're obviously much closer to the crotchetyness of UD than I am.

I grew up po', until my parents figured it out. Then they were not po'. Then I was po' myself, until I figured it out.

You'd automatically lose points on the 50% of people around you can read at the third grade level or higher question.

I'll be honest. Where I grew up and still live, there's not a lot of Jeopardy being watched.

I've literally never eaten at Chili's. Of those restaurants I've only had Applebee's and Friday's in the last year. Never had Waffle House, Outback or Ponderosa. The others I've only eaten at once or twice in my life.

You know I watch NASCAR and knew the difference between Jimmy and Jimmie

You're going to hate this, but that's the story of my life - though I may still qualify my parents as "po'". Dad has worked on a farm, or farm machinery factory his whole life. My mom has worked a blue collar job at a juvi center most of her life. Dad worked (still does) 60 hours a week and my mom still does 70ish hours a week (both born in 1951) to make things work.

I'm po now, but working to not be...and TBH and I will own our own business in the next 5-10 years.

Face it. I'm you but younger.

I'm thinking those white liberals who live in suburbs of major cities are not as progressive as they think they are.

What does the Avon question have to do with this?

I'm no faggot, but our Drill Instructors at Parris Island made us buy Avon Skin So Soft at the recruit store to mix with rubbing alcohol to make a sand flea repellant. It was the only way we could shoot on the rifle range without being completely miserable. So I answered that question honestly.

All kidding aside, Ellendale is a rough spot. I wouldn't be hanging there late on a Friday or Saturday, unless I needed crack or smack.

The scoring of the archetypes reflects a few realities about socioeconomic background and the bubble.

If you grew up in a working-class neighborhood, you are going to have a high score even if you are now an investment banker living on Park Avenue. Your present life may be completely encased in the bubble, but you brought a lot of experience into the bubble that will always be part of your understanding of the world.

Growing up in a middle-class neighborhood also scores points for you on several questions, and this too is reflected in the real-world experiences that people bring to their adult lives in the new upper class. But middle class covers a wide variety of environments, and the degree to which people who grew up in the middle class seal themselves off from that world after they reach the new upper class also varies widely, which is reflected in the wide range of possible scores.
