Flyers still have a pulse. On the board first in Game 5, almost halfway through the second period.

There was a fight in the first ten seconds of the game, and it's been chippy throughout.

Flyers getting dominated in every area but the scoreboard. Take a 1-0 lead to the third period.

Something tells me the Caps are gonna get going in a big way in the third.

Flyers win, Flyers win!! Heading back to Philly just a game down.

The goalie switch for the last two games has been money. Michal Neuvirth proverbially stood on his head tonight. 44 saves. :notworthy:

Flyers outshot 44-11 and win 2-0.

I'm under no delusion that the Flyers have a chance at a miracle comeback in this series, but the fact that the pucker factor has risen in Washington and the Post has to write articles like this gives me great satisfaction!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/c ... n-the-news
Suddenly, the Capitals are forced to confront their ghosts of playoffs past again

And now, there’s tension.

A joyous, breezy Washington Capitals season finally succumbed to the playoff strain Friday night at Verizon Center. Leading Philadelphia three games to one in this first-round Stanley Cup playoff series, the best team in hockey returned home for a closeout game, turned in a performance worthy of series-clinching victory and somehow still lost. The Capitals lost in a most mystifying and unreasonable manner, a cruel result that hockey sometimes delivers at random.

In 7 game playoff series over the last two seasons, the winner of Game 6 went on to win Game 7 and the series 8 out of 12 times.

The Rangers tried so hard. Tied after the 1st 2-2. Pens score 4 goals in the 2nd to go up 6-2 after 2. It's like men playing against little boys right now.

Soften up the Caps for us Flyers. :thumb: :kisswink:

Great effort by the orange and black. Caps penalty killers were the story throughout the series. It was obvious in the first period of game one that they were clearly superior. Nice effort by the last team in against the Presidents Trophy winners.

Islanders tanking to end the season to finish with the 1st wild card instead of 3rd in the Atlantic (which they easily could have done in the final game against the Flyers (with a minor league team) and OT loss against the Buffalo in the 2nd last game while the Rangers win their final game against Detroit) is the reason the Rangers are going home and Islanders move on to the 2nd round after another OT win over Florida.

Caps/Penguins winner should be the conference champ and may play the Isles in the Conference finals.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Islanders efforted less so that they could avoid the Pens in the first round. Smart move by them if that's the case. Barring a major injury or two, I just don't see anyone beating this Pens team 4 times in 7 games.

To show that you are correct that they played effortless in their final game, here was the lineup for the first playoff game for the Isles and who did not play in the Flyers game:

Nielsen-Tavares-Okposo - NONE PLAYED THE FLYERS GAME
Kulemin -Nelson -Bailey
Prince-Quine-Strome
Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck

Leddy-Boychuk - NEITHER PLAYED FLYERS GAME
deHaan-Hamonic (HAMONICK DID NOT PLAY FLYERS GAME)
Hickey-Pulock

Greiss (ONLY PLAYED 1ST PERIOD OF FLYERS GAME)
Berube

So they rested their whole 1st line, 1 second line D and a goalie for most of the game. The rested forwards normally played about 24 of the 60 minutes each game and two of those D played almost 1/2 of each game normally and the 3rd averaged about 24 minutes per game. They sat a huge amount that game hoping to lose.

Not criticizing - just saying they were smart in what they did.

Hawks and Blues tied at 2 through 2. I dislike both teams to some extent, but this is everything a game 7 should be.

When Seabrook hit that double post with 2 minutes left, you just had to sense the Blues' mojo.

Which is odd because all Gods generally ignore St.Louis. :coffee:

I haven't paid much attention to the NHL this season and gotta say, I've gotta pull for the Caps. I was hoping the Flyers would take it but alas...I was disappointed.

Not that many of you are watching the playoffs anymore...but last night's game between the Caps and Pens was awesome, but it also sucked. Sloppy game throughout, but lots of back and forth (imagine that, in HOCKEY!!!!) where both teams took turns dominating the game. Went to OT when Oshie scored his third goal of the game (that's called a hat trick, for all you newbies out there) on a wraparound that had to go to review. I didn't actually see the puck go over the the line, but it was ruled a goal on the ice and then I guess the review was inconclusive so it counted.

This is the only shot I found where it appears there might be some white between the goal line and the puck.

I saw on the news that one of Oshie's neighbors put a Penguins poster on his front step overnight Wed that he saw yesterday morning when he left the house.

I doubt they do that again.
