My son Brendan has benefited from multiple programs run by Autism Delaware, so I will be writing a thank you note to Tony Stewart and the NASCAR Drivers Council:

http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/t ... -jr-042716
Who says nothing good ever comes from controversy?

Last Thursday afternoon, NASCAR announced it was fining three-time Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, presumably for comments he made about lug nuts and safety.

That night, the nine-member Sprint Cup Drivers Council announced its members would all pitch in equally to pay Stewart's fine.

And then today, a brilliant and positive move: The Drivers Council announced it will instead donate the $35,000 to Autism Delaware, which was founded by NASCAR on FOX coordinating director Artie Kempner, and his wife, Marcy, in 1998. The organization has raised more than $5 million and served more than 1,000 children and adults living with autism.

"I appreciated the Drivers Council support, but I didn't want them to pay the fine. We decided as a group to donate the money to charity," Stewart said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. "Artie is such a good friend to all of us and his foundation does a lot of great work."

The Drivers Council was formed in 2015 and meets periodically with NASCAR to discuss various issues from competition to safety. Members include Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Joey Logano and Stewart.

That was tame for 'Dega!

Logano paid the price for blocking. That's racing.

NASCAR got the winner right as well, according to current rules (which suck).

That was a testament to the cars.

The fact Saddler,s car was even in a position for him to save it at 190mph.

The fact Logano could hit a wall at 190 MPH head on and then get t-boned at 190 and walk away after getting thrown in the air and spinning....without flipping

The fact that the 19 car could go into Logano at 190 mph, burst into flames, and the. Walk away before he got charred....

Clenz, that was what was so shocking about the death of Dale Earnhardt. We were all used to crazy accidents where people walked away waving. It looked like a fairly pedestrian super speedway accident when it happened. SAFER barriers on the track and HANS restraint (by Earnhardt), neither of which were in use that day, might have helped, but the accident investigation revealed his left hip seatbelt (one of five belts) failed, allowing him to pivot right and slam the center of the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Everyone wanted to vilify Simpson seatbelts, but then it was made known that Earnhardt heavily modified his seatbelts. He had the shoulder belts installed upside down so he could pull up to cinch them instead of down. He also used the same belts over and over and they found wear all over them, not caused by the wreck. He really did himself in by being very old school: open face helmet, old and modified seatbelts, no HANS.

Looking like it may be a rainout today at 'Dega. Ugly forecast.

Two of top three, three of top five, four of top eleven are Hendrick cars in qualifying. Looks like somebody put some special sauce in those cars. 8-)

Green flag pushed up 15 minutes. They should be able to get it started anyway.

Danica for herself caught way outside heading into the pits in green and has the second pit stall. So what does she do? Dive bomb 4 cars, making contact with 2 and causing one to come to a complete stop from the contact and have to reverse to get around her as she ended up completely sideways.

She's fucking trash

Jr. loses it and then overcorrects back up and collects Kahne (teammate) and Dibenedetto (sp).

Looking at a high 30s finish. Ugh.

The mini big one happens as 4 wide racing the halfway point like its the end of the race due to weather. The 34 car flips 4 times. I don't think I saw a roof flap open.

Roof flaps are designed to deploy when a car turns 90+ degrees away from forward, and I'm not sure that ever happened to Buescher.

That had to be an eye opener for a rook. He's real lucky that car stopped rolling early.

On super slow mo, Buescher was past 90 degrees for a quick moment and the left flap did come up. They worked as designed.

Haha, I went back and watched it again and there's an infield cam that catches a flagpole with an American flag, a Trump flag, a confederate flag in LSU colors, what looks to be a crawfish perhaps, and other shit. All on one pole!

No biggie. You were right that 46 and 48 had very pronounced flap deployment.

And boy did Jr ever just have to eat a Carl Edwards sandwich. JFC.

Seeing it again 34s flaps would have done nothing anyway. Annett lifted the 34s back end from the start and just kept driving him as as he went to the wall. He was fucked from the start

Juniors day just got real shitty

2016 NASCAR thread

Post by clenz »

From the UNI beat writer, also does dirt track and NASCAR coverage for the paper out of Cedar Rapids, shots fired out of the Cassill camp

After the race, in an interview with FOX Sports, Harvick said, “Landon Cassill was trying to cause a wreck for the last 40 laps and he finally got it done there at the end.”Cassill came over the radio right after crossing the finish line and said, “I might’ve caused that. The 98 (Whitt) came down and I got into him.” As he was leaving the track, he saw Harvick’s comments via Twitter, and essentially laughed them off as it being an emotional reaction from the 2014 series champion.

“It’s a shame because in any other part of the race, either the 98 (Whitt) would’ve given me more room or I would’ve checked up, but when you’re coming to the checkers, nobody’s going to do that,” Cassill said. “You saw the 4 car, Kevin Harvick, wreck the whole field at Daytona last year in very similar fashion. He drove right over the 11 car (Denny Hamlin) and that was the wreck that caused the 3 car (Austin Dillon) to go up in the grandstands. How are you supposed to say that’s anybody’s fault? It’s superspeedway racing, really.

“I don’t really take anything that guy (Harvick) says personally, because he’s got a reputation for being fairly emotional and can’t handle himself. He’ll get over it. Two of the last few superspeedway races ended under a huge wreck because of him. I find it kind of funny he’s mad at me. His reputation is pretty thin-skinned. That’s just who he is.”
