I am glad you are focused on the real issues.
Grocery store space.
More products require more space.
More space requires more energy to be generated.
More energy generated reduces the life span of earth.
No earth = No pizza.
What can be more important?

And from the practical standpoint, abortions will always happen.

I'd rather focus my energy on electing those that want to make the circumstances where women feel compelled to get abortions rare.

This is done by sex ed, easy and cheap birth control, empowerment of women.

Basically, the opposite of the GOP approach, which actually increases the number of abortions.
unfortunately, the direction the left pulls in is ultimately nihilistic- there will always be a vocal part of the left that is as comfy with late term abortion as they are with the morning after pill (because Repukelicans OMFG)

if the GOP can ever shake the religious aspect to abortion opposition and embrace the scientific there will be little high ground for the left to claim

Happy belated Birthday, Andy!

I'm with Flaggy on applying science to gluten intolerance. Our local Kroger is doubling its size for more shelf space, increasing hard surface area with more roof and parking area which will increase run-off, erosion and flooding, not to mention impacting water quality and salinity levels in the lower Chesapeake Bay which in turn impacts the oyster and crab populations. I don't even want to get into the increased power consumption and heating which will negatively impact global warming. All of this because science won't tackle and deal with gluten intolerance. The world will eventually burn up because of gluten intolerance.

I'm also value human life and would love to see murder go down. It is very cleaver how the left has packaged the eugenics practice of abortion as women's rights. Abortion was conceived as a way to limit poor and minority populations, and unfortunately seems to be quite effective in doing so through clever labelling. "A person's a person, no matter how small." Dr. Seuss

Abortion and increased gun control laws (decreased levels of gun ownership by law abiding people) both seem to have a positive impact on increasing murder rates.

I guess I'm missing something, but where are there increased gun control laws currently being implemented? Seems to me that the Supreme Court has consistently upheld gun ownership rights.

This is a great table. As gun ownership has gone up in the USA, murder rates and violent crimes have gone down in the USA. Now all you have to do is contrast national murder and violent crime rates with those of areas with tougher gun laws than the national average. Try starting with Chicago and Baltimore and go out from there.

It's not about science being the Devil. It's about recognizing that there are instances in which things are restrained for ethical reasons. I have ethical issues with even the way things are now. When you're experimenting with human embryos you are experimenting with living members of our species whose existences have been established. The idea that there is some point subsequent to conception where a unique individual appears for the first time is nonsense. It's a unique individual at conception.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Full disclosure: most of that gluten free shit you see, blows. I buy a couple decent gf breads, snyders has a solid pretzel, and Annie's White Cheddar Mac and Cheese is the best M and C I've ever had. I also use the gf flour.

The rest is a waste of space. I can cook gf better than most people can cook using regular ingredients.

Here's the observational science...when I eat gluten I get a knot in my upper GI, yawn a lot, want to take a nap, and have stanky, watery shits for a day.

How about New York City if you want to cherry pick cities? ;)

And I'm really not advocating stricter gun measures. I have noticed a trend though, of the courts being willing to strike down stricter local gun measures when challenged. Kind of surprising that the challenges don't happen more often.

I have no desire to cherry pick, hence why I advocated a more extensive study in the highlighted sentence above. The NYC rates came down despite structure guns laws. Have you looked NYC vs Houston?

CT and CA have some of the stricter rules and have had mass shootings.

VA has some of the looser laws and along with MD and DC, who have some of the strictest, experienced the beltway shooter and VA also had the Va Tech shootings. It is not universally true, but in general higher rates of gun ownership and fewer restrictions lead to lower murder rates.

In one of the recent years, murders with hammers were higher in the US than murders with so-called assault rifles.

I'm not an advocate for gun control but it makes me scratch my head when people want to use Chicago as an example of failed gun control policies. Many of the guns that are used in Chicago come from straw purchases made at suburban gun shops where the rules are much more lose.

I also don't think you can reasonably compare Chicago to just anywhere else in the country. Comparing Chicago to New York has some validity but I don't think you should compare Chicago to rural Oklahoma because of population density, social and economic differences.

I agree with your bolded comment above. How about Houston a city with similar demographics, looser gun laws and an approximately 39 % lower murder rate?

Viable is another of those terms that are relative to the person using it. A 1 year old child is not viable or capable of surviving or living successfully on it's own. All these political terms to make one side look better in the eyes of the other side of the debate. A baby is a baby and it can be a fetus. Abortion is ending a life, but it's a woman's choice.

I agree with you Jon about your point "I'd rather focus my energy on electing those that want to make the circumstances where women feel compelled to get abortions rare."
