Question for ya JJ...
Joe, why don't the jews believe Jesus is the son of god?

Re: Question for ya JJ...
This probably stems from another theological debate thread (which no one but Joe, D1B, Grizza and Andy reads), but isn't that a more appropriate question to ask to an actual Jew?

Re: Question for ya JJ...
Nevermind the Jews, boys. Thousands and thousands of indigenous people all over the planet have no fucking idea who this Jesus creep was....and they're doing just fine. 'Course, theyz goin' to Hell, too, ain't they, HIU93?
Those who have heard of the myths and fables of Jesus had it related to them at the point of a bayonet. Buddhists? Tried to kill them into submission. Didn't work. Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims? Didn't work.
All going to Hell, eh, Joe, for not being saved by this Christ slacker?

Are you saying that? Or are you saying that's what I have said? Because you can search high and low, and you will never find any post where I said that.Cap'n Cat wrote:All going to Hell, eh, Joe, for not being saved by this Christ slacker?
It amazes me how much you guys presume to speak for me. I guess it helps to keep all religious in a single box, so that your one stock answer fits all.

I'm confused now.
Joe, I was saying that the question of why the Jews don't believe that jesus is the son of god is probably a question that should be asked to a Jew, not to a Catholic.
I wasn't referring to anything you said.

Now, son, your paranoia is flaming out of control. It's a simple question. Didn't say you said that. Interesting how you seem to enjoy answering q's wit' q's. Privately, though, you believe that they are going to Hell. I don't know, but, based on your rhetoric, that's what I will bet on.
Or, Monsignor, you have some serious doubts about this Jesus malarkey and you're bravely hiding it behind a crumbling papier mache Virgin Mary.

You lose the bet. I don't think that.Cap'n Cat wrote:Privately, though, you believe that they are going to Hell. I don't know, but, based on your rhetoric, that's what I will bet on.
Seriously, you need to ignore what Sr. Mary Judgmental told you in Fourth Grade and re-discover Catholicism. I think you'd be surprised about what Catholicism actually instructs. Maybe you would still not believe, but I think you'd be surprised.
One of the reasons I am attracted to Catholicism is that it explicitly instructs that people of all faith and belief, and people of no faith and belief, are being saved. I bet you never heard that in grammar school. Neither did I.
And for some reason, no matter how many times the Pope reaffirms this, it doesn't make the papers. But if so low-ranking Vatican prelate says something bad about condoms, it's a headline here in the US.

I am no longer a Catholic, but I do agree with that. Reps.

Re: Question for ya JJ...
The Jesuits were great; but honestly, believe it or not, the professor who really kicked me into this direction was a Protestant theolgian who had studied the reformation period under Roland Bainton at Yale. I was surprised and impressed at the subtlety by the theology which was re-stated by Catholic Church during the counter-reformation, even as the Church itself was under the leadership of rogues at that time. It was the first time I realized that the word of God prevails without regard to who the heads of the Church may be, and that no matter how flawed any indiviudal leader might be, the Church ultimately was greater than that.dbackjon wrote:So you were confirmed, but it took a Jesuit to make you really Catholic?JoltinJoe wrote:

Hey, Joe, you're in a bad cult, buddy. Can't say anything more. You're all smoke and mirrors with your ghost stuff.
Glad you're seemingly happy, though. Takes courage to consider that which challenges your belief system, but like that dumb bitch, Joan d'Arc, you choose to die on that mythical cross.

Attended funeral mass on saturday for a long time friend and customer and it was surely the right thing to do. That being said, no house of worship that I know of goes out of their way to make visitors, and folks of other religious persuasions uncomfortable like the Catholics. Lots of lovely good people are members for sure, and I love them as much as anybody I can think of, but that's the way it seems to me. I have been to many Mormon funerals as well, but again, funeral mass takes the cake in my opinion.

It has all the hallmarks of a cult and is a cult. Even the Nazis hated the Catholics. That's lower 'n a snake's belly 'round these parts.

This is most likely a flat out fabrication or at the very least, a gross exaggeration. Jolt's purpose here is to add credibility to his dogma by claiming ultimate acceptance during adult years.JoltinJoe wrote:Both, but I don't think I was ever really Catholic until college.dbackjon wrote:

Bullshit. And the truth is..
Jolt, like 99.999999% of catholics grew up in the church and had the shit forced upon him by well meaning but uttlerly clueless parents or a violent father and utterly scared shitless mother. Jolt's countless hours of studying fairy tales, confessing sins, lanquishing in church or the countless church related fuctions intentionally designed to ensure you have no life outside church (cult) and telling lies to his children could have been spent actually improving mankind and even perhaps gaining refined social skills, or achieving a better awareness of his obvious personality disorder - all key things that would have relieved him of his current abyss of lonliness, social awkwardness and self-loathing, which is why he needs religion in the first place.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Joe, what did the protestant theologian have to say about Jews not getting the memo that one of them saved the world and could get them a ticket into heaven if they behave?JoltinJoe wrote:The Jesuits were great; but honestly, believe it or not, the professor who really kicked me into this direction was a Protestant theolgian who had studied the reformation period under Roland Bainton at Yale.
