Re: Gary Johnson, your next POTUS
The only way Johnson can "win the presidency" is by taking a state or two in the general and preventing Clinton or Trump from reaching 270. And then convincing members of the GOP held House to vote for him over Trump.hitchinaride wrote:http://time.com/4348326/gary-johnson-li ... onvention/

I doubt that will go over well with Joe Q. Public.

That's because the average Joe Q is about as dumb as a box of rocks and never seems to grasp the concept that the big 2 is what has been fucking him for years.

Not voting for Gary Johnson doesn't mean you're dumb. Many of his stances are dumb IMO. He's unelectable.hitchinaride wrote:That's because the average Joe Q is about as dumb as a box of rocks and never seems to grasp the concept that the big 2 is what has been fucking him for years.

Oh, and thanks to catamountman for starting this thread. Even though we conks can't carry klam's jock when it comes to supporting the G-Man.
On a related note, wouldn't it cap off this retarded political year if Johnson didn't get the LP nod?

Except he was a successful two-term republican governor from democratically leaning state. Some of his ideas are out there a bit, but the system is broken and corrupt, and creative thinking is needed.89Hen wrote:You guys crack me up. Johnson is one step away from Spandos.

Re: Gary Johnson, your next POTUS
1. Balanced Budget. yes we will have to cut military spending to do it.
2. Taxes - removing tax subsidies, double taxes on business eventually eliminating the income tax for a consumption tax ( I admit my skepticism on this one)
3 Civil Liberties. Agrees with Ben Franklin on this one. Give up liberty for security deserve neither liberty or security.
4. Foreign Policy - non-interventionist
5. Abortion - pro-choice with limits on late terms and no public funding.
6. Marijuana - legalize it
Yep he is way out there.
Now, I will admit when I hear him talk I get the same feeling I do with most Libertarian politicians. you sound like a nut
But this year I got "You sound like a nut Trump" and " You sound like a liar and act like a crook Clinton"
But honestly, the most extreme positions are ones that most conservatives give lip service to and then do nothing about. Taxes and the size of government.

The tax idea is a big change but worth a shot and he's the poster boy for limiting government but running an efficient government that promotes fair competition without picking winners and losers. Cronies from both sides of the aisle don't want that.

Re: Gary Johnson, your next POTUS
Honestly, I don't know if I would vote for Johnson or not. Will have to do a little more research on him etc.
But my voting philosophy has changed over the years. Most presidential elections, I vote against someone. I finally got tired of doing that and in 2012 abstained. In 2008 and 2012 republican primaries I voted for Ron Paul. Not necessarily because I thought that was the best presidential choice ( I know sounds strange), not even sure I would have voted for Paul if he had been the nominee.
I voted for him because I would like the party to move in that direction. Now I realize my leverage is little, but hell it is what I have.
Now that we have honestly the two worst candidates I can imagine, unless I find something really untoward in Johnson (other than being nutz which pretty much describes where we are anyway), I will probably vote for him.
