I Wake Up In A House That Needs Unlimited Broadband

Post by 93henfan »

This 4G LTE hotspot shit sucks. But I'm not paying Comcast or Verizon by the foot to trench down my country ass driveway. The estimate was $4,000.

Wasn't Obama supposed to give us poor country folks free broadband? How can our country remain competitive? Where is my free shit?

The truth is:
You and your township have already PAID for that high speed connection to your property
in fact you've probably paid for it several different times

Depending on which Tax Cash dump in which year you want to look at
Comcast cashed that check a long time ago and delivered NOTHING

and guess how:
No oversight - ZERO - just free tax dollars given to them with no assurances of delivery

I don't live in a township or city limit. We are taxed on property at the county level and income is taxed state and federal of course.

Would my county or state have paid Comcast already? Or were they paid via taxes on the bills of their existing customers? I'd love to be able to point at something and tell them it shouldn't cost me for running cable.

I hate them regardless. I did try to negotiate long term contracts with both Comcast and Verizon (anywhere from two to five years) to waive the dig fee, but they weren't interested.

Regardless of where you live... You're f*cked
Comcast - a private corporation - has been put in charge of our public broadband infrastructure
and there is absolutely zero oversight

They can do whatever they damn well please

Example:
Every High School in the contiguous U.S. was part of the Broadband build out bills of the mid-90's
and Hundreds of millions of dollars were paid to Time Warner and Comcast
to do what they contracted to do - Build out the infrastructure and light up each high school

Here we are:
20 years later and guess how many High Schools they did... "Unknown" is the official answer
a few dozen is the actual number

and guess what:
Comcast and Time Warner are asking for an additional $350 BILLION to do "guess what"
To build out the broadband network and include all US High Schools

It's fucking ridiculous

I forgot to add that I offered to do the digging myself with the appropriate machinery and they refused.
