2016-2017 NBA Season Thread

Post by Gil Dobie »

The internet is loaded with juicy trade rumors for draft picks.

One thing for sure, Philly will not be selecting a big man this year. They will be taking the next Lebron James in Ben Simmons, small forward from LSU.

Will Philly trade Okafor for a top 5 pick, to get point guard Kris Dunn?

Timberwolves may be going after a shooter in Buddy Hield or Jamal Murray, if they don't trade the #5 pick for Jimmy Butler.

Too many scenario's being discussed to name them all.

Another good T-Wolves rumor - Russell from Lakers to Wolves for #5.

If we trade Okafor to the Celtics I may throw something at whatever TV is in the vicinity.

There's no guarantee that Embiid will ever be healthy, and even if he's able to play to start the year who knows if he'll be healthy enough to last a whole year. Okafor is a stud, he's a 20/10 guy for the next 10-15 years. Other than trading Okafor to the Lakers for the #2 pick and taking Ingram there isn't a trade worth it for the Sixers if they're parting with Okafor. Kris Dunn is not good enough compensation for trading Okafor - Dunn can't shoot, probably won't ever shoot, and why would we want a guy who needs the ball after we draft the point forward in Simmons? And besides, you don't trade Okafor inside your own division, let alone your own conference. But Colangelo is so adamant that he gets credit for building this team rather than Hinkie that he could actually give Okafor away to make his point. Ugh.

No way in hell the Wolves actually pick at 5.

No idea what they get but way too much interest to keep it.

2016 NBA Draft

Post by clenz »

I read an interesting theory that was essentially

Pick 5 to New York
Melo to Cleveland
Love back to Minnesota

Not sure that's even remotely likely but it would be interesting to see how Love would be welcomed back. I wasn't "die hard" enough when all of the shit with Love went down. I was interested in the wolves but didn't follow the roster and all of that. I really jumped on the Wagon in the days leading up to the Love traders Cleveland.

I get the feeling he isn't really wanted back by most of the Wolves fans. He is, kind of, what the Wolves are missing though

A starting line up of
Rubio
Lavine
Wiggins
Love
KAT

With Djeng and Shabazz already key bench players, I mean. That's a top half west starting line up. The bench needs help but man.

Though KAT apparently loves MN so much he's apparently convinced Murray to basically beg to get drafted by Monnesota.

People weren't happy that Love wanted to leave, but getting Wiggins back helped tremendously. Still, Love was welcomed back to Minnesota with a big round of Boo's, when Cleveland played at Target Center.

Cleveland burned Lebron jerseys....so...

If Love comes back via trade and is a 15 15 guy again then all may be forgiven.

David Kahn is hated more than Love, for picking Jonny Flynn and then Rubio over Steph Curry. Flynn had a great game in the NCAA tourney and Kahn was impressed enough to draft him.

Get your arm loose, if the Celtics draft Dunn at 3 the deal is done.

I know. So we'll have Dunn and Simmons, two guys that are both point somethings and who both can't shoot, and we will have gotten rid of one of the guys, Okafor, on the team who can actually make a 10-15 ft shot. Who are Dunn and Simmons supposed to pass the ball to after they are done fighting over who gets to make the pass? And who's going to guard a Celtic-jersey-wearing Okafor while he drops a double double on us every time we play him over the next decade and a half?

Hinkie was never the guy who was going to finish the process and turn all these assets into a team that could win, but he was also never stupid enough to do what the Sixers may be in the process of doing right now.

I'm not sure Curry is Curry if he's in Minnesota - though he's better than Rubio and Flynn...

Kahn sucks.

Trust the process and the 76ers are a title contending team.... :coffee:

Agreed. But veering off the process simply to try to prove that you know so much more than the guy you replaced who created the process to date is a recipe for disaster.

Trade Okafor for the Lakers for the #2 pick - I'm down with that, that works in my opinion. Trading Okafor for a Kris Dunn or some other lesser player, and on top of it trading him within the division, yeah, I can't get behind that. From a potential superstar standpoint, it's a two person draft.

Who knows, maybe Embiid is going to be healthy now for the next 20 years and he develops into the best player in NBA history, I'm just not ready to bank on that quite yet.

Latest I read, was the Celtics going for Noel from Philly, but now are looking at Al Horford for the #3 pick.

I would trade Noel in a heartbeat - nice guy, nice player, but has hands of stone (manos de piedras in Spanish) and is nothing more than a role player in the NBA. I would throw in other stuff as well with him to move up, although I don't think the Sixers need to go as high as #3 to get something they need. And no, we don't need Dunn if we're drafting Simmons.

Just saw a story on Simmons he will not have private workouts for the Sixers inspite of the fact they told him that they will select him. Saw another story Boston is showing interest in Nerlens Noel and they are willing to part with their no
.3 overall pick to Philadelphia.

You guys need a decent point guard with a pass first mentality.

I know not really draft related but Rose with Holiday and 2017 2nd rounder to Knicks for Robin Lopez, Calderon, and Jerian Grant. Thought Bulls could have gotten more even with Rose being able to opt out next year but maybe injury concerns have limited what Bulls can get. Either way, seems like Knicks win the trade.

That is if Rose can stay healthy as you know he has not been the same since that injury bug bit him.

That's what Simmons is. Granted, he's a point forward, but he's the playmaker.

You're days old. Simmons already did work out with the Sixers just the other day, that will be the only team he works out with.

Could greatly impact Minnesota.

Butler is likely off the table now. However, Noah and Gasol are likely both out the door with the bulls. Noah would be a freaking score.

Don't know what it would take to get either, or both, but....
