Is this guy a hero?

Post by kalm »

For laying down some some serious conk smack that the woman probably needed to hear?
A Mississippi woman seeking help buying supplies for her diabetic daughter’s insulin pump was brushed off by state Rep. Jeff Guice (R), the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported.

Nicole Nichols said she contacted Guice after she and other parents had been struggling to buy the necessary supplies for their childrens’ pumps because the company that used to supply them changed its policy and outsourced their products to a company not covered under Medicaid. She said she pays more than $2,000 a month for the medication her 8-year-old daughter, Bella, needs.

“We have recently begun having a lot of problems with Medicaid/CHIPS coverage for the essential diabetes supplies needed, not only to keep our kids healthy, but to keep them alive,” she wrote. “Is there someone in the legislature that can and will help these children stay healthy? They must have these medications and supplies which administer the medications to stay healthy and, quite honestly, alive!”

Of the three legislators she contacted, Nichols said, Guice was the only one who responded harshly.

“I am sorry for your problem,” he wrote. “Have you thought about buying the supplies with money that you earn?”

What a douche. He says he doesn't do interviews...well no shit. I wouldn't want to either after I was so callous. Something tells me that in a month or so, this woman will have her problems resolved.

I know it doesn't work in every instance, especially in children, but a better diet can reverse and halt diabetes. Just sayin'...

Is that pump classified as a medical device? I thought all medical device makers were evil and needed to be excised taxed accordingly. No?

And no, the Rep is not a hero, just a douche. No reason to treat a person you supposedly represent in that manner. But we do live in a pretty uncivil political world these days so I suppose that passes for proper communications these days.

He also wrote it down. At least when somebody says you said something, you can fight back. You can't fight back when you've written down something like that.

Not a hero and a douchebag response.

You can see the actual emails here https://www.facebook.com/Living-in-the- ... 639249297/

He's been a Rep. since 2008 so you'd think by now he would know better than to respond in that manner. I wonder if there's some unknown history between the two. :suspicious:

it has nothing to do that part, but the failure of the state to properly fund Medicaid.

It does have to do with trying to accommodate "state's rights" by running the ACA through the states with state options, instead of just using a Medicare expansion.

Type 2 sure, this is Type 1 and that don't apply here. Better diet and exercise are always a good idea but doesn't mean you won't need the pump supplies if you are on one. If you have Type 1 your immune system likely destroyed your own ability to produce insulin at a young age so no matter what you do...you gotta have an outside source supplying it...a pump, or needles constantly.

Yeah, that's why I said I know it won't work in every instance, I couldn't remember Type 1 vs 2 this morning.

It's the Type 2 people, which I am assuming the mother and father are, that could do something about it.

Did it say somewhere that mother and father had it as well? I only saw it talking about the 8 yr. old girl and her pump supplies.

She explained that she and her family live “paycheck to paycheck” despite working to make ends meet, since both Bella and Nichols’ husband live with diabetes.

Got it, missed that part completely about the husband. I would not necessarily assume he is not Type 1 though cuz the $2k/month mark seemed high as my costs are about 1200/month so it seems they both might be type 1 looking at the overall cost (I assume that is both) and they are putting the child out front of the cost as the most sympathetic figure in the matter. Could be wrong but it makes the number make more sense. :thumb:

I don't know if he is a hero but I do think we have an issue with people in this country thinking "I have a problem therefore government is responsible for solving it."

You want callous? Here's callous:

Take a look at the world population curve. Looks at what it has done in the last 10 years. Mother nature used to take care of cases like this, but we have thwarted mother nature to the tune of billions of human beings.

Our civilization covers the globe but it is only an inch deep. Within 50 years we are either going to have to figure out who to start killing, or who to leave to th forces of mother nature.

How's that for a JSO hijack?

Nah. We are letting radical Islam take care of that problem now.

I think the problem is the Government program. Regardless, it's shitty for the representative to tell her to pay for it with her hard earned money. This is for a child.

50 at a time won't cut it.

We need to stay below 8 billion people. Below 7 billion would be better but we are already past that.

http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_population

Either our birth rate must cut by more than half, or our death rate must more than double. At some point part of the equation is going to be to stop keeping people artificially alive.

If something doesn't happen soon, our grandchildren will see famine, or wars for food. I think we had better hang on to our nukes, because we won't make those decisions until earth makes them for us. At that point it will be kill or die.
