Absolutely. And ODU has won what?
You say that as if I was poking fun. I'm serious. Football and basketball are top tier championships. Bottom tier would be sports like tennis, volleyball, field hockey, gymnastics, swimming, rowing, etc. College baseball gets a decent amount of exposure, and knocking off the big boys is an accomplishment.

And Old Dominion has 28 national championships. Most of them are in bottom tier sports (field hockey 9, sailing 15).

How's it a Cinderella story? We deserved to be there. 53+ wins, most home runs of any team.
Yeah, Coastal was a Regional 2 seed which mathematically puts them somewhere between 17 and 32. That would be like a 5 or 6 seed in the basketball tourney. They were probably a little better after factoring in the way the Regionals were set up. Fresno was a 4 seed when they won it, which equated to a 13 seed in the basketball tourney.

Coastal has been very good for a very long time. Multiple Regionals and Super Regionals appearances over the years. They've been nationally ranked for many years, started this season out in the top 25, etc.

Fresno State went 33-27 in the regular season when they won in 2008. Coastal was 40-15 and ranked #15. :dunce:

The two times Georgia Southern has been to the CWS, we were ranked in the top 10 all season both times. :silly:

Now that I'm all caught up...

Congrats to CCU. That's awesome. No really, it is. Really, really.

Alot like Cluck and anything that has anything to do whatsoever with mainstream, I pay very little attention to College Baseball, especially during the regular season (I'll glance at a playoff score, but that's about it). I honestly had no idea that CCU was in the final, I thought the regionals/super-regionals were still going on.

Congrats StickyShitter. As celebratory gifts, are you going to give all the CCU baseball players reacharounds or hummers or what?

Very impressive, but slightly wrong. Wake Forest won in 1955 and Virginia won on 2015. So ACC 2-CCU 1. Maybe you can catch them next year though.

I was reading the comments from the Arizona coach yesterday and found one thing very interesting. The play of the game to him was the double in the 9th that Arizona hit. He said that he had every intention to send the runner home when the ball was first hit. But the the Left Fielder for CCU played it perfectly, threw a strike to the cut off man, and held the runner at third. He claimed that it was the defensive play of the year in college baseball. This clip has it. And ESPN is wrong I think. A homerun is an earned run last time I checked.

Any run that scores after an error that would have ended the inning is unearned.
It's a screwed up rule in a way, but the idea is that if the error wasn't made, and the inning ended, anything that happens after that would not have happened. Seems to me that they could come up with a cutoff of some sort because the inning could last for a long time. Something like 2 or 3 batters after the error, then after that, the runs would be earned.

Heck, a pitcher can get a save as long as the tying run is on deck. This is probably the oddest rule in sports. The tying run doesn't even have to get up to bat. :?
