Doesn't he live in Louisiana? Where else would he mail things from? Alabama?

I will be fine regardless of what happens. I live by the Serenity Prayer paradigm. I do what little I can in situations like this but I live with the World as it is.

If I'd had my way during my politically aware lifetime neither the Male Clinton or Obama would have become President. Life went on.

As I've posted before life is like a poker game. You can't control the cards that are dealt. All you can do is play them.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

My life won't change because of who gets elected but I'd like for my descendants to have a chance to live in a country like back in the day of the American Dream.

When would you say "the day of the American dream" was?

Depends on who you are. For me about '54-'73

Ok. You could pick any year in that time frame and if you look at the actual data there is no case to be made for the idea that things were better for the "typical" person in the United States then. I'll use home ownership but I can also tell you that you'll see the same kind of thing if you look at things like inflation adjusted income, unemployment, percentage of the population with college degrees, etc. So to home ownership rate since I think that's an indication of successfully pursuing the American dream:

Image

Yes there were peaks during the 1970s and 2000s but there is no indication at all that things have been "worse" recently vs. the 1960s and 1970s. And that's even though the graph creates the impression that things have been more variable than they have because it chops off the scale at 60%. You can get a better feel for how things have varied by setting the bottom of the scale at 0:

Image

When you see it in perspective like that you see that it's been close to constant. A little bit of random variation. And the houses people own now are bigger. You can see that at https://www.census.gov/const/C25Ann/sft ... vgsqft.pdf. That table only goes back to 1973 and ends at 2010 but you can see the trend.

This thing about things being worse now than they were back in the 60s and 70s is a myth. 50s too. The American Dream is at least as alive today as it was back then. Probably more so.
