SCOTUS slaps down Texas anti-abortion law

Post by dbackjon »

A divided U.S. Supreme Court struck down Texas abortion restrictions that had threatened to close three-quarters of the state’s clinics by putting new requirements on facilities and doctors.

The 5-3 ruling is the court’s first abortion decision in almost a decade. It invalidates provisions that required clinics to meet hospital-like surgical standards and forced abortion doctors to get admitting privileges at a local hospital.

Texas said the rules safeguarded patient safety, while opponents said the real aim was to reduce access to abortion.

Not commenting on the decision, but this was funny. All of 7 women at the rally, and the local news showed up. Slow day I guess.

Nothing to see here.

JSO says that it is OK to put more judges on the bench that favor murder...because Trump is a mean person who is not polished.

So it's OK for an abortion clinic to use nasty, unclean gear and to have a delay in getting a patient to the hospital because the "doctor" they employ doesn't have the skills required to work in the ER?

Like that makes sense at all.

The libs on the court are playing their role, all right. I wouldn't be surprised if they would somehow rule a Constitutional amendment banning abortion unconstitutional....

I'm totally OK with that.

An abortion that is done to protect the life of the mother is going to be done in a hospital anyway, where they already have those safeguards. All others will go to the abortion mills.

I've never been to, but i'm going to take a guess that abortion clinics aren't using "nasty, unclean gear." I'm willing to be there are regulations and checks.

And I'm guessing there's more to ER access than unqualified doctors. SH is being dishonest here. :ohno:

Key word, Corky. I highly doubt that most, legit abortion clinics are as unclean as they once were.

That is not what they are saying. The Texas law required abortion centers to have higher standards than other outpatient clinics that do far more dangerous work - like a colonoscopy. A doctor could do one in his office, and colonoscopies have a much greater complication rate than abortions do.

Most doctors are not ER doctors. Again, you have no clue as to what the ruling was about. Stop reading the extremist, terrorist websites with their lies.

You know, Texas is a red state, they could always just make it illegal. If they really wanted to put it to a vote. I'm sure that would just piss dback off even more.

And what about mid-wives? How do their clinics stack up? What are dangers? Do they have ER auth?

I doubt it.

And it is not ER auth - another misstatement by the Forced-Birth Camp. Admitting privledges to a hospital is something completely different. And frankly unnecessary for an abortion clinic. Picture the scenario - two hospitals in a 25 mile radius - one Catholic, one Baptist. Both refuse to give a doctor admitting privledges. Clinic can't operate. State says, well, they didn't meet the criteria. But the state KNEW that the hospitals would deny them privledges. So, the SCOTUS (the logical, sane ones, not the foaming-at-the-mouth religious fanatics) correctly ruled that was a defacto ban on abortion, which is unconstitutional.

The US Constitution does not, in truth, protect any "right" to abortion. Roe v. Wade and other decisions holding that it does are the worst examples of judicial activism.

Roe v. Wade has done more damage to the tranquility of our nation that any other decision in the history of the Republic. There have been other bad Supreme Court decisions, but the damage done by Roe v. Wade seems permanent and has irreparably changed the ways and means of our federal government.

You see all those crazy fundamentalists lining the hallways of Congress? They are there because of Roe v. Wade. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Abortion will go away when science gets to the point where a person doesn't need to carry a baby in a womb in order for it to keep living. We're getting there, and will continue to get there, it's only a question of when we arrive at that point. Once artificial wombs are realized then all this abortion talk will go away. It's always been about ending one life in exchange for another life to not be impacted more than it has to be. Science will take care of this in the coming decades.
