St. Onge is of French origin. My legal name is "English." But there's a twist. It's English in that it was a name associated with the Normans who conquered England and established themselves there.

Ancestry DNA test was not that helpful in narrowing things down. Shows my single greatest component of Ancestry is "Western European." Could be French or could be other things.

Oh...and I do have a substantial component...30%...Ireland. Go figure.
I am guessing . While the Vikings made it to Ireland I don't think they were as pervasive as other parts of England . Maybe Irish is a little more distinct and easier to identify ?
True. I don't know about many places but Dublin, IIRC, was founded by Norsemen.

Interesting. Shows how little I know about my supposed ancestral homeland

A better assessment of the Cops shooting Blacks thing
A new study confirms that black men and women are treated differently in the hands of law enforcement. They are more likely to be touched, handcuffed, pushed to the ground or pepper-sprayed by a police officer, even after accounting for how, where and when they encounter the police.

But when it comes to the most lethal form of force — police shootings — the study finds no racial bias.

“It is the most surprising result of my career,” said Roland G. Fryer Jr., the author of the study and a professor of economics at Harvard. The study examined more than a thousand shootings in 10 major police departments, in Texas, Florida and California.

We need to have a conversation about men getting harsher sentences for the same crime, about mass incarceration of men in our society, and the systemic misandry that criminalizes maleness.

After all, men make up a disproportionate number of those killed by police and incarcerated, and as we all know unequal outcomes means that there is inherent bias in the system.

Can't get any of the NY Times to copy & paste. The study examined data from 9 major cities & counties..

"An Empirical Analysis of Racial Differences in Police Use of Force," issued this month, examined 1,332 shootings between the years 2000-2015. Fryer and his team looked at suspects' race, gender, sex, weapons used if any, and injuries from the police. They also considered a swath of other factors including time of day, race of the officers, how many officers responded to the scene, and what kind of call they were responding to.
They also looked to find out if police were more likely to fire on black suspects....."

".....Mr. Fryer, who is black, told The New York Times that the finding of no racial discrimination in police shootings was “the most surprising result of my career.”....

......The 63-page study, “An Empirical Analysis of Racial Differences in Police Use of Force,” appears to support research conducted at Washington State University showing that officers in simulation tests were actually less likely to shoot at blacks than whites.

My bad. I went to post it early yesterday morning (before you had) but got distracted. Came back today and didn't bother to see you had already posted it.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
