Part of the problem with the SSA is that it is too vulnerable to financial meddling from Congress. Whether we run it like a government bond program or let it feed on the private market- none of that will matter when Congress has the ability to borrow from it.

When I lived in El Salvador I noticed that the highways there were pretty good. They weren't completely up to snuff with US highways but they were close, and certainly MUCH better than the rest of Central America. Driving across the border from El Sal into Guatemala was very illustrative of this. Anyway, it was explained to me by a Salvadoran politician that their highway infrastructure fund is set up in a very similar fashion to the way Social Security was set up in the US. They wrote into law that their legislature cannot touch or borrow from the highway fund. It is the only public works system in the entire country that actually works.

Best to invest in the auto industry and big banks. The government will always support them.

It's wrong to compel people to participate in a program for ensuring their retirement. It's wrong to FORCE the young to take care of the old. Social Security is just wrong on every level. It should never have been established and it is a millstone around the American neck in the long term.
You're such a drama queen John. SS would be just fine if congress would a) give back the trillion dollars they've stolen, and b) remove the cap on SS taxable income. Honestly, John....your poor wife... :ohno:

My dad drove to Guatemala to work on a large dam project back in the day and had his Ram charger confiscated by the chief of police of the first town across the border.
