I'll just say that I don't think there's a team in FCS that Isaiah Golden wouldn't start for at defensive tackle (unless they said they didn't want him because he did that armed robbery thing...I'm talking about in terms of physical ability). Yes I know I'm biased and yes I know I haven't had the opportunity to see everybody but this is a starting caliber SEC tackle who runs a 4.9 40 at 335 pounds.

I'd just ask how many guys there are in FCS right now that have the physical attributes to have started six games at defensive tackle in the SEC as a freshman for a reasonably competitive SEC program (Texas A&M). I wonder how many of the defensive linemen listed on the first and second teams are good enough to have started in the SEC as freshmen. If there are any there aren't many. And if I had to bet I'd bet none of them are at that kind of ability level. I think it very unlikely, for instance, that PJ Hall would've started any games at his position as a freshman in the SEC. He's a very good FCS defensive end. But not likely he'd have been starting for a Texas A&M as a freshman.

Course Golden has to get out of prison first. Fingers crossed. Hoping the out of prison by mid August thing comes to pass.

Even ignoring the legal issues or Golden's high potential, why would a guy with just 28 tackles and 2 sacks last year get anything resembling an All-American nod? :?

Arrested & kicked out of TX A&M for marijuana possession & aggravated robbery charges for committing an armed robbery. Afterwards arrested yet again on charges of domestic violence and child endangerment. What did he do- beat up his baby momma? He's a convicted FELON with a 10 year sentence. He's a thug who comitted armed robbery, but he's a hell of a run stopper! And JSO wants him playing for his alma mater. And wants Hillary Clinton elected. You can't make this shit up..

Oh I agree with that and I almost addressed stats in my post. His role is to occupy the offensive line. But I do think that, just as a matter of ability, he'd start for anybody in FCS.

Again, I am obviously biased. But I found an article with some language in it that reflects the way I look at it. I understand that when people are doing All America teams and they're looking at defensive players things like numbers of tackles and sacks are going to rule the day.

The article is at http://www.americanpress.com/20151203-golden-rules and here's the language:
The statistics don’t tell the whole story, or even most of it. He averages 3.5 tackles a game and is nowhere near the team lead with three tackles for loss and two sacks. Yet coaches throughout the Southland did not hesitate to vote him first team all-conference.

“There’s certain defenses that we do that I don’t know that we could do without him,” Michel said. “The coaches know. If he’s not an all-America, I don’t know who is. All they have to do is watch tape. The writers associations may not get to watch tape and just see stats, but when coaches look at him, it’s a no-brainer.”
Opponents are so concerned with double-teaming Golden that teammates like linebackers Bo Brown and Ashari Goins and defensive ends Cameron Smith and Jammerio Gross have consistently taken advantage of their one-on-one matchups for sacks and tackles for loss.

“When great players are worth their salt,” Michel said, “they’ll bring everybody else up too.”

Fellow tackle Anthony Yruegas sees the Golden effect better than anyone.

“He’s made it a lot easier for me opening it up for single blocks,” Yruegas said. “He just makes the defense better as a whole. Not only do they plan against him, but since Isaiah’s been here we seem to have more intensity.”

Rare is the defensive player who even makes his offense better, but Cowboys center Mason Martin said he feels ready for just about anything after squaring off with Golden during spring ball, August training camp and on Wednesday practices during the regular season.

“He’s huge. That’s what everyone notices. But it’s not just size, because you always go up against guys that are big,” Martin said. “Some guys are fast and explosive. Isaiah’s the total package. Big and explosive. There’s no weakness to what he does.

“If we don’t want to get embarrassed in practice, we really have to perform. And that really helps in games.”

Michel, who has coached college defensive lines for 20 years, calls Golden the best tackle he has ever worked with.

“There’s no doubt he’s the best,” Michel said. “He’s special. He hasn’t been blocked all year.”
