What decade would you like the next 10 years to be like?
Trump wants "to make America great again." Many smartasses ask what time period "again" means.
So I pose the question to the board.
What decade would you like the next 10 years to be like? Or, in other words, what decade would you like to see repeated (politically, economically, environmentally, etc.) that you think will make most Americans happy. Post your reasoning.
(Yeah, I know I left off the 50's. I did that for a reason. Also, anytime before GATW was born is a valid reason.)

1980's. I like the music. Really evolved a lot during the decade. Punk and post disco at the start, morphed into regrettably ill advised Milli Vanilli crap halfway through (including big hair bands) but did give us GNR and led the way to grunge at the end of the decade. Good tv too, the decade that gave us the "Wonder Years" (gratuitous obligatory photo of Danica McKellar)

I was mostly looking for political, economic, blah, blah, blah, reasons. Presidents usually don't influence the music industry, unless you're a hippie.GannonFan wrote:1980's. I like the music. I read the term "environmentally" much more broadly apparently. My bad.CAA Flagship wrote:I was mostly looking for political, economic, blah, blah, blah, reasons. Re: What decade would you like the next 10 years to be like?
I just voted for the 80s because Reagan was President through most of it, I was living a lot of it doing a job I loved while living with a very hot wife at a time when my hormones were still spinning full speed on St. Simons Island, etc. Also MTV was actually music television. It was a great time.
I think the music was better in the 60s and 70s though.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

I voted for 1980s too. Wonder why it's only showing one vote. Should be at least two!GannonFan wrote:1980's. I like the music. Really evolved a lot during the decade. Re: What decade would you like the next 10 years to be like?
I would have to go with the 80's also.
After an awful decade of the 70's, America got back to work. Interest rates dropped. Construction boomed. Russia blinked, the push for the removal of the wall in Germany began, and democracy was beginning to grow in foreign lands. American automakers finally realized that Americans were tired of the shit they were pushing (Pinto, Mustang II, Maverick, Vega, Gremlin, Pacer, etc.) with the popularity of Japanese autos. It was the beginning of "globalism", but it may have been at a more appropriate level as compared to today. Oh, and the DeLorean.

The Wonder Years ran in the 90s twice as many years as the 80s. Danica was also 12 when they started recording the show. She didn't become hot Winnie until the 90s.
Seems The Wonder Years is a better 90s than 80s argument

So you'd consider That 70s Show a selling, or negative, point for that decade?kalm wrote:Didn't it take place in the 60's?clenz wrote:The Wonder Years ran in the 90s twice as many years as the 80s. Danica was also 12 when they started recording the show. She didn't become hot Winnie until the 90s.

What decade would you include Happy Days for? Set in the 50s but on from 73 to 84

Re: What decade would you like the next 10 years to be like?
The best season was the one that bridged the two, the '89-'90 tv season. Sure, it continued on, but the show slipped a little as it got older. And Winnie was hot at any age - considering I'm only two years older than her, that was entirely appropriate to have that opinion.clenz wrote:The Wonder Years ran in the 90s twice as many years as the 80s.
