Yeah, and considering the median income in Vermont is $52K, I don't think the average person who lives and works there year round is in the market for a $600,000 first home, let alone third.Ibanez wrote:Isn't the median home price around $300k? A house, regardless if it's a 2nd or 3rd home, that cost double that amount is hardly moderately priced. But a 70 year old man who's worked his whole life buying a moderately priced 3rd property
should that be "Newsworthy"..?
The median existing single-family home price in the Northeast rose 1.6%, to $273,600, in the 2nd quarter of 2016 compared with the 2nd quarter of 2015

1) We aren't talking about the average person.Grizalltheway wrote:Yeah, and considering the median income in Vermont is $52K, I don't think the average person who lives and works there year round is in the market for a $600,000 first home, let alone third.Ibanez wrote:

2) I'm just pointing out that Cleets' claim that a $600k house is moderately priced or not fancy isn't accurate. On Manhatten, it's probably the opposite. In the Charleston or Charlotte area, it can get you a nice house on the water or on 10 acres. That's all

Re: Still Feeling the Bern...
My parents were able to retire relatively young on educator's salaries and afford a gorgeous second home on Puget Sound. They did this because they bought property at a very young age, were frugal, and invested well. And neither of them cared for financial sector shenanigans and monopolies very much. The horror!!!CID1990 wrote:You aren't running for President on the kind of platform Bernie was.Chizzang wrote:
I'm not rich
and in March 2017 I will have 2 houses around that price range
and in a few years a 3rd isn't out of the question
I've never made much more than $150K a year
and many years I made far less than that
14 years ago I lost everything in a brutal divorce
and as an almost 40 year old adult (back then) was working 2 full time jobs in Boston
it took a long time to recover from that financial beating
So..
when I hear that some 70 year old man who's worked his entire life
is buying a third home for $600K and that makes him somehow a FAT CAT
I have to look hard at the motivation of that viewpoint
I've worked with 35 year old corporate leaders that had Yachts that cost more than that
and that's not even getting into their private Jet and their multitude of homes
I think we might be focusing on the wrong thing here...
You can try to make it irrelevant all you want but the premise of this thread is just as SPOT ON as one about a family values Christian Republican getting pinched for soliciting underage prostitutes.
Edit: and before you or anyone else gets in a tizzy about it... I could care less what Bernie Sanders does. Or anybody else for that matter. Just don't go on a national stage and make open criticisms of society and then behave in the same manner two months later
In the case of Bernie, heaven forbid an American politician betrays his own class.

Jesus H. Motherfucking Christ you're a drama queen. Go on Trulia, put in a price range of $400-$650k and look at all the "bulldozer properties" that come up in King County.
