$499k for 1,000 square feet is stupid. $499/sq ft. You can build for cheaper.

It's all depends on location, anywhere.

If I had 600K to buy a house(three times my current house's worth), it would be very very nice, and right down the street. But if Cleets was looking in Baltimore, and insisting on living in Canton, Inner Harbor or Federal Hill, waterfront. He'd feel the same as he does now.

This whole argument goes away if:
1. He bought the house to fix it up before moving out of the other and putting it on the market.
2. He sells the DC house when he finally retires from the Senate, or rents it out.

Which is why you wonder why Sanders hasnt already gotten that message out yet. If he was planning on simply fading out of the limelight, this isn't the way to do it.

That's what we're doing...
The house will be finished in March 2017
We had to get in line to hire a builder - break ground in October
Problem is LOTs are rare and expensive and builders are MORE rare and more expensive

This ain't the Palouse

Palouse? There's that word again. It doesn't exist! Like Narnia, Middle Earth or visitor stands at Charleston Southern.

Rare lots and builders? Where are you building!? I don't doubt it, just find it odd. And how expensive, per acre? I'm always curious about that. I've seen some shitty lots go for about $10k acre and others go for almost $100k acre.

From my experience out here in the EC(b). We looked into building last summer, we met with 10 contractors. 3 did about 1 custom home a year while they made their bread and butter doing reno's. 5 were about 50/50 home building/reno with 2 being about 80/20. And there's plenty of land. EC(b) FTW.

A family friend, in order to reduce costs, was her own GC. She had a family member who was a GC be the official person and was paid for his help, but her and her husband did all the planning, ordering, scheduling, etc... She said it saved them about $30K and I think this was around 1999.
