Thumper 76 wrote: Your bigger issue is the fact that you come in pretty one dimensional being heavily run oriented. NDSU is great at picking one part of your offense to take away and doing it. See all the games vs SDSU when they had Zach Zenner. They are very good at making you try to beat them with your weakness and tearing you apart once they've forced you into that situation. They're very good at forcing quick possessions so your defense is forced to be on the field a lot, which is why the size of your defense will start to matter. If CSU doesn't get some good sustained drives in the first half, the game will get away from them in the second half. If it was a mid season game where they only had a week to prepare for the option it would help a lot more in catching them off balance, but with them having a full month to prepare I don't like the odds of that happening.
Great point. Midseason we'd have a better shot.
Their coaching staff is just too good to be surprised. That's a massive part of their success. I haven't seen them be out game planned before. Honestly outside of maybe one or two games since we went FCS, SDSU has had circles coached around them most games vs NDSU it feels like. It's infuriating.

Stig did it in the '14 playoff game in Fargo. The wildcat with ZZ put the Bison on their heals for awhile and almost won the game for the Jacks.

Yes they obviously have an incredible staff.

We're a solid 14-17 point underdog. We need to be +3 in turnovers and have 1 score on special teams (kick or punt return) to pull this win out. And that's only if we do both of those and still hang with them on offense and defense. I'm not naive. They're better than us. But if we can keep it within 14....get a few turnovers on drives they would've otherwise scored on...and land a spec teams TD...we got a shot.

That said...our defense is GREAT at creating turnovers in big games. Citadel and Coastal can testify to that. And we have IMO one of the best kick returners in FCS with Hammond.

Yeah we have a chance. Honestly I'd say about a 1 in 4 chance. 25%. Play this game 4 times, we'll win 1 of them. Who knows. This may be that 1.

I think its 28+ underdog Buc90. Lets just be real hear, in 2013 our undefeated season team, 15-0, played Youngstown in the Fargo Dome for a big conference game. Bison were Ranked #1, YSU was #3 in the nation. We all expected a tough battle for most of the game. Well get this 51-10. Yep. We just crushed them, subs played the entire 4th qtr.for us.

So being REAL here, your first time QB in this Fargo Dome environment ESPN Live National Audience, the magnitude of amps is going to be off the chart. If your Bucs turn it over on a short field with us, man its going to be a stampede, the Thundering Herd crowd will be deafening to your offense.
Even if they get up early on us, Bison are a better second half team traditional as adjusments are what the coaching staff has done year after if our boys are playing sluggish. Its like 2 different teams first half to second half.
Our team this year is deeper and more talented on both sides of the ball then 2013 team. Its going to take a miracle for your team to stay close in my opinion. If Bucs offense can stay on the field, and sustain drives on us, at home, then I will be shocked.
I would suggest this game to be much like App.State going to Michigan in 2007. That's how much a spread in team talent we are going to see. Once more, then when we kick Eastern Washington Red Birdies 2 weeks later, this team travels to Iowa to let the Hawkeyes have it right in the chops! I haven't felt this confident since 2013 squad and beating Kansas STate that early nonconference season. I knew they could do it then, and I feel the same way against the Hawkeyes and they have a good returning team ranked #14 in the nation. The bar has been raised no doubt.
I hope our game with the Bucs is competitive and we get tested more then we thought, but can your team go 4 qtrs. in the Fargo Dome? They have never been in a stadium on National TV opening game like this before. The Bison have and understand what they need to do.

This is Real, but if you and any of your Buc fans are coming up, just take it all in, tailgate is fantastic, and our Dome is one of the best in the FCS. ITS a MONSTER challenge for the BUCs for sure. The Bsion fans are great with visiting Fans, where your Buc stuff and see what its like to be in Title Town FCS Fargo.

Good luck to your team, they ARE going to need it.

Holy shit tone it down skippy. It WOULD NOT BE CLOSE to Appy Michigan. Even in the same stratosphere. Remember that CSU is ranked in the top ten, maybe try not being the typical arrogant bison fan for five seconds and sniff some reality. I think your bison win, but the were on par with Michigan shit is a joke. Get real.

Thumper I have been nice, hope you can make the trip up. However we've had other top 15 teams in this dome and playoff games in which should have been close games, and they end up being blow outs and our starters don't play the entire game. That's Reality. It will be fun to play someone we haven't lined up with before, don't get me wrong, but I'm telling you your team is getting into a game that they haven't experienced before, they will see how good a team can be when you win 5 in a row. Its one thing if your the defending champion, but when is the last time CSU played a 5 time defending championship program? The answer, never.

So if you can come on up, enjoy the tailgate, take it in, and see why we have beaten the last 5 FBS schools that we have played. We play like a Big Ten or Big 12 team. Its just nuts what these kids have become. Again I saw Buc90 jumped on the Bisonville site Forum, he seems like a great guy, great attitude, hope he comes up as well.

The outcome of this game by 4qtr, I hope its within 21 points for viewership of the FCS level.
I would like to see a descent test and push the Bison into the 4qtr but I have heavy doubts on that.

Good Luck to your Bucs,
Bison will be ready to make a statement Nationally!

So not a CSU fan. You're funny though. If you read what I've been saying most of the thread was arguing for NDSU to win by a solid margin. Lol. You might notice the Jackrabbit helmet as my avatar though. :D

I agree that we're big underdogs. But...I have to disagree when you say we don't know what it's like to face a team with such recent success and in a crazy environment. We did play Alabama last year. And Georgia in 2014. And Florida State with Jameis Winston. We went into The Swamp when UF was ranked #1 in America and had Tebow (BTW we were the ONLY team who didn't give up a sack to UF and offense got about 300 total yards vs that NFL caliber defense).

We may well get blown out. But I have to just say if we do it won't be because the environment shell shocked us. It'll be extremely intense but we've been in some hostile places.

NDSU has also, during it's run, had very close games at home in the playoffs. In fact last time they played your South Dakota State buddy's team they won 27-24 after scoring with 0:54 seconds left to get a last minute come from behind win. A close one that comes to mind involving a non conference opponent was the 23-20 semifinal win over Georgia Southern in 2012. In that one Georgia Southern led NDSU at halftime, at the end of the third quarter, and in the 4th quarter until the Bison scored with 5:02 left to bring the score to the final. Then they preserved the victory by blocking a Georgia Southern field goal attempt with about 20 seconds left.

The Bison deserve a lot of credit for winning close games that could've stopped playoff runs every time they had them since losing one in overtime vs. Eastern Washington on the road in 2010. But they have indeed had close games.

Having said that I would probably make them at least a two touchdown favorite over Charleston Southern in this one. But you really never know. Bigger upsets have certainly happened.

That was a great Georgia Southern team, probably one of, if not the best play-off team the Bison have seen at home in the last 5 years. McKinnon is now in the back field backing up Adrian Peterson for the Vikings. But as USD proved last season, any given Saturday.

Also notice, all of those close games it was a teams second trip to the FargoDome.

No team has been close in their first trip

I think there could be something to that but Wofford also gave them a tough game the week before Georgia Southern did in 2012 and that was Wofford's only game against North Dakota State. It wasn't a thriller as the game was 14-7 at halftime and that was the final score. But Wofford's defense shut the Bison down pretty well. The Terriers outgained North Dakota State 362 to 262 in total yards and outrushed them 262 to 167. It certainly wasn't a mismatch. North Dakota State won the game but it certainly wasn't like you look at how that game went and say Wofford had no chance to beat them.

North Dakota State HAS won easily most of the time playing at home. But they have been challenged at times.

Wofford didn't score and offensive touchdown in that game and they had one of the best running backs in the nation carrying the load for them.

They still rushed for 262 yards at 5 yards per carry. They clearly were not overmatched in that particular game. That's all I'm saying. I'm just saying that it's not like North Dakota State has just walked out and blown EVERY good team it's played at home out...taking out the starters, etc. They've had some games where they had their hands full.

Give them credit though for winning the games like that.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Your correct. I stand corrected. You guys play the big boys in ACC and SEC, but are those games sold out when you play them or 2/3rds full? 40k or 75k? Just curious.
Its hard to imagine 5 FBS schools in your own state! That's nuts. What a recruiting battle....
We are rural and are now the Huskers of the North (Nebraska) Those fans in Lincoln are THE MOST LOYAL you can get! 90,000 strong. Now if we could build a new stadium half that size, oh would that be fun....

It is what it is man, just line up and play ball as we aren't going to vacate FCS like Coastal Did as they never even won a FCS title, got close, but ran into who....? The Thundering Herd! And you guys took care of them last year too, I think.

Are you able to make the trip to Fargo? It will be trip to remember! National TV, first kickoff game of the year in USA, as Friday Aug.26th D1 game in Australia kicks off, so that doesn't count.

Buc you, Go Bison,

Yeah we have a chance. Honestly I'd say about a 1 in 4 chance. 25%. Play this game 4 times, we'll win 1 of them. Who knows. This may be that 1.
I for one Bison fan have a respectful concern for this game, but then again, I have a tendency to worry about all of them. And this one reminds me a lot of the Montana game last year, including a bit of an undersized defense and an offense we don't see a lot of. The one major difference is we are at home for this one and I see about a zero percent chance the team overlooks this game. At any rate, I'd still put your odds closer to 1 in 15 as in 71-5.

Holy **** tone it down skippy. It WOULD NOT BE CLOSE to Appy Michigan. Even in the same stratosphere. Remember that CSU is ranked in the top ten, maybe try not being the typical arrogant bison fan for five seconds and sniff some reality. I think your bison win, but the were on par with Michigan **** is a joke. Get real.

Hey Thumper, when you get a real football team that can contend, let us know, but until then when you have 5 NATIONAL TITLES IN A ROW, not just one, times 5, then you can spout off about your team, stay with your bunnies, Get Real? A Joke? Where have you been the last 5 years, we have dominated the FCS and there is no stopping in site. This Bison program might win 3 more in a row and make it 8 in a row. That's a REAl possibility.

We are talking with Buc 90 and his fellow fans, so go talk to TCU Fans who you guys play and get a clue.....

Sorry about that Buc Fans, just one of our local rivals that seem to get to the playoffs but can't go beyond the 1st round usually, but yet a MVFC foe....

This.

And the "Red Birdies" are from your own conference.
We call Red Birdies from Eastern Washington whom we play 2nd game of this Back to Back series Sept.10th.
We call Illinois State the Red Birdies too, because any bird is a bird, not..... look at our schedule and figure it out. Stay with me......

I really dgaf what you have done on the FCS level if your dumb enough to say that if CSU, ranked #6 in the country, were to upset the bison (and it would be an upset), it would be on the same level as the App-Michigan game, you're retarded and incredibly arrogant. Don't get me wrong, your run has been incredible, but to think of your team being on the same level of respect, notoriety, talent, and overall history of the UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN (who I hate with a passion) you are out of your mind.
