2016 Little League World Series
Well my hometown didn't even make it out of their district tournament this year.
A good looking NY team is repping the Mid-Atlantic.
But the big shocker so far is that the Japs lost to Canada today and it wasn't even close.
Iowa is up early against California.

Holy smokes. The starting pitcher for Curacao allowed a run after walking 3 and hitting 1 after facing the first 4 batters while pitching with his left arm. Then he changed gloves and began pitching with his right arm and struck out the next 2 batters and got out of the inning on a weak ground ball.

In dbackjon's circles, they call somebody with that sort of talent a switchpitcher. Also a northpaw.CAA Flagship wrote:Holy smokes. That's a surprise? People have been switchpitching in the LLWS since at least the '50s....CAA Flagship wrote:Holy smokes. LL officials say that this hasn't been done since 1957. So your wording is incorrect.SuperHornet wrote:That's a surprise? Actually took the day off yesterday and took the kids to Williamsport - kids had a blast. Caught the New York game from in the stands and watched the other games from the hill. Just a great setup and a great event to take kids to. Not sure how anyone's going to beat South Korea this year - just like those Taiwan teams from years past, they have some really big kids and they can all throw heat. I like the Mid Atlantic team's chances to win the US, but I don't think they have enough to beat Korea if they meet in the final game.

Completely agree. It's looking like NY vs. South Korea at this point.GannonFan wrote:Actually took the day off yesterday and took the kids to Williamsport - kids had a blast. Gave up 11 runs in the extra inning last night and lost. On the bright side, I actually got to see the Iowa state flag as they have the state (or national) flags of the two teams playing hoisted on flagpoles in the outfield.clenz wrote:How's Iowa doing?

Re: 2016 Little League World Series
On days other than this coming Saturday (the US Championship Game) and Sunday (the final game of the LLWS) you can just walk into the stadium and take a seat. Everything is free (well, not food, that still costs money) so you don't have to pay for anything. First come first served on all seats (they do rope off seating for the parents of the two teams playing and there is a section at the top of the stadiums roped off for players and coaches of other teams - the West team was sitting behind us scouting the Mid Atlantic/Southeastern game as they play the loser of that game tonight). Depending on the game, you need to get in the seats some time before the game starts. The Mid Atlantic game (the NY team is fairly close by, about an hour by car) draws more fans so you need to be in the stadium about 45 minutes before the first pitch. For the game last night (Kentucky and Iowa) there were empty seats available even when it started (both teams are not local and it was the last game of the night so the place had thinned out considerably - plus it was chilly last night, dipping into the 50's even I believe). Make sure your son brings a piece of cardboard - the kids loved sliding down the hill maybe even more than the baseball.bandl wrote:Did you already have tix or did you buy at the gate?GannonFan wrote:Actually took the day off yesterday and took the kids to Williamsport - kids had a blast. Saw the last couple of innings of that game (turned it off once some runs were scored in the 7th). Exciting one where the pitchers on both teams were pitching out of trouble over the last few innings. Really exciting game.GannonFan wrote:Gave up 11 runs in the extra inning last night and lost. Re: 2016 Little League World Series
We left in the 4th inning - got too cold and it was the end of a long day. Didn't pull into my driveway until 12:30AM and had a meeting I had to chair at 9AM. This parenting and making memories thing is tiring at times. My wife didn't go either because she's fed up with the boys after being at home all summer with them (she's a teacher). I didn't lose any of them nor did they get seriously hurt (the little guy jammed a finger in a collision while sliding on the hill - it's very Lord of the Flies on those hills, you do learn how to keep an eye uphill to see who's coming down).tribe_pride wrote:Saw the last couple of innings of that game (turned it off once some runs were scored in the 7th). Littler bandl took a real interest to the LLWS on sunday, so I told him where they were playing and he said he wanted to go. But he's heading down to the grandparents on thursday for the weekend, and I don't think I'll be able to make it happen tomorrow. Definitely something I'm going to put on my list to do next year now that I know he has real interest.

Iowa (2-1) beat Rhode Island with two runs in the bottom of the 6th to stay alive.
Tennessee and California play tonight in an elimination game. That will trim the US field to 4.

Tough 4th and 5th innings is going to knock out Iowa. Tennessee up 14-3 (after 13 runs in those 2 innings). Tennessee will play loser of NY/Kentucky tomorrow for the right to play the US Championship on Saturday against the NY/Kentucky winner.

I turned the game on just in time to see a bases loaded single turn into 3 runs and a triple for Tennessee.
Immediately shut it off.
