Magic number down to 7 for Nats and have 13 games with Braves, Marlins and Dbags left, whom they are a combined 22-8 against.

Wild Card is slipping away. Verlander gives up one hit over 7 innings yesterday and the Tigers lose 1-0 in 10 innings. :ohno:

Mariners are hanging just close enough to get my hopes up and then crush them on the final day. Typical.

Mets fan friends are going nuts on social media about last night's walk-off. I had to remind them they needed a ninth inning miracle to avoid a loss to the Phillies on the heels of being swept by the Braves.

No joke. It's as if STL, NYM, and SF don't want to make the playoffs.

To be fair to the Mets, for starting pitchers, Harvey (since 7/4), Matz (since 8/14), and deGrom (since 9/1) are out, Wheeler never made it back this year (should have been back from TJ surgery middle of this year) and now Syndegaard has strep throat and will miss his start tomorrow so only Colon will be part of the season's original expected starting lineup this week. The next 5 starters will be guys named Ynoa, Gilmartin, Gsellman, Colon, and Lugo.

In addition, the Mets have been without starting every day players David Wright (since May), Neil Walker (since end of August), Duda (came back this week for first time since May), and Lagares (came back this week for first time since end of July)

The fact that they are in the running for a playoff spot this year is amazin

Meh, everyone has injuries. Nats have started probably 12 different pitchers this year and just about everyone on the team has missed games for injury: Murphy, Harper, Zimmerman, Rendon....

Not claiming as an excuse as Nats have been better than the Mets this year but Mets injuries are over the top and it's great that they are even able to compete for a playoff spot this year despite their injuries. Everyone neutral has been saying how much more injured the Mets have been than other teams this year. It happens to certain teams each year (and Mets were without injuries last year when they made their World Series run) but Mets starters have been injured like crazy this year.

If you look at opening day rosters and games played, its insane what the Mets have dealt with.
Nats (out of 153 games)
Rendon - 148 games played
Espinosa - 148 games played
Harper - 142 games played
Murphy - 141 games played
Werth - 136 games played
Ramos - 129 games played
Zimmerman - 109 games played
Revere - 97 games played
Starting Pitchers
Scherzer- 32 games started
Roark - 31 games started
Gonzalez - 31 games started
Strasburg - 24 games started
Ross - 17 games started

Mets (out of 154 games)
Granderson - 142 games played
Cabrera - 133 games played
Cespedes - 125 games played
Walker - 113 games played
Conforto - 102 games played (most due to demotion so not due to injuries)
d'Arnaud - 72 games played
Duda - 42 games played
Wright - 37 games played
Starting Pitchers
Colon - 31 games started
Syndergaard - 29 games started
deGrom - 24 games started
Matz - 22 games started
Harvey - 17 games started

With a week to go, still a 5 team battle for the 2 WC spots in the AL.
And still a tight 3 team battle in the NL.

Playoff baseball starts now.
