Ky. pastor hosts Bring Your Guns to Church Day

Post by bench »

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A Kentucky pastor is inviting his flock to bring guns to church to celebrate the Fourth of July and the Second Amendment.

New Bethel Church is welcoming "responsible handgun owners" to wear their firearms inside the church June 27, a Saturday. An ad says there will be a handgun raffle, patriotic music and information on gun safety.

"We're just going to celebrate the upcoming theme of the birth of our nation," said pastor Ken Pagano. "And we're not ashamed to say that there was a strong belief in God and firearms — without that this country wouldn't be here."

The guns must be unloaded and private security will check visitors at the door, Pagano said....

Pagano, 50, said some members of his church were concerned that President Barack Obama's administration could restrict gun ownership, and they supported the plan for the event when Pagano asked their opinion....

He said the point was not to mix worship with guns, though he may reference some passages from the Bible.

"Firearms can be evil and they can be useful," he said. "We're just trying to promote responsible gun ownership and gun safety."

You don't know how tempted I am to put on my Sunday finest, drive eight hours and attend this thing. This is probably the purest, most concentrated expression of God, Guns, and Old Glory I could possibly hope for, and I feel it is very important for this astonishing level of fuck crazy to be documented and immortalized in print. If I ever wanted to get my Hunter S. Thompson on, this would be the perfect opportunity. The story would probably write itself.

That is pretty sick.

Probably not a good idea for any abortion doctors to attend.

No need to worry as guns must be unloaded......guns without ammo like congregation without cognitive thought...but it's private property, to each their own.....

I'm a Christian and I own a gun...

But if I met him face-to-face, I'd have one question for this "pastor"...

And I'll wager his answer would not mix guns and church..... :shake: :shake:

IMO, Jesus would say everyone welcome to come in and worship, regardless of whether you carry a gun, political affiliation, culture, nationality, race, sexual preference, thief, murder, etc.

yeah, the specter of political violence with rightwing churches as their base of operation (i.e. the f'ing taliban on American soil) tends to unnerve people... especially a week after one of these nutters gunned down a man in a church.

what is it about these conks that they can't handle an electoral mandate from the people and have to resort to violence and threats of violence when they don't have unbridled control of our government? (see McVeigh, Timothy for the least time this happened) For as bad as Bush was, and as angry as he made the left, you never had liberal radio hosts calling on people to gun down agents of the government (like that asshole in CT) or entering a church with a gun to put an end to someone like Ted Haggard or Mac Hammond.

I missed the part where this preacher wanted someone gunned down, and that there is any relation to him and the abortion dr murderer.

no... wrong, wrong, wrong.

it's got everything to do with it... and don't deny it. a week after Tiller is shot to death IN A CHURCH a right-wing pastor calls on his congregation to bring their guns to church? the message it conveys is clear - he doesn't want Tiller to be the last.
