Lady Griz once again top 30 in attendance

The University of Montana women’s basketball team, with an average of 3,826 fans per game, ranked 30th in the nation in home attendance the NCAA announced this week. The Lady Griz have ranked in the top 30 nationally in 23 of the 25 years the NCAA has kept attendance records.

Montana’s league-leading attendance numbers helped the Big Sky Conference rank ninth out of 31 Division I conferences at 1,285 fans per game. Montana and Montana State (1,660) were the only Big Sky schools to average at least 1,000 fans per game.

The Lady Griz ranked behind No. 29 North Carolina (3,916) and ahead of No. 31 Ohio State (3,616).

For the sixth straight year, Tennessee led the nation at 13,999 fans per game. Connecticut was the only other program to average over 10,000 fans per game. The national champion Huskies averaged 10,529.

Rounding out the top five were Iowa State (9,754), Oklahoma (9,007) and Purdue (8,971).

At 5,312, the Big 12 Conference had the best league average for the 10th straight season. The Big 12 was followed by the Big Ten (4,194), SEC (3,818), ACC (3,131) and Big East (3,013).

In all, NCAA Divisions I, II and III topped the 11 million mark for the third straight year.
