That's the thing, the GOP is going to suffer right now, as they should for electing Trump, but the tide he represents isn't going anywhere and it's going to have to be dealt with eventually. There's a real groundswell of what's basically nihilism out there - you see it in Trump's movement, you saw some of it in Bernie's movement, and it's been growing in this country since at least 2008 if not even before that with the anti-Bush sentiment (and maybe even the anarchist anti globalization protests that came before that). Too many people in this country hate government and hate the people associated with it. Since Hillary is a perfect epitome of the status quo and the establishment, this is just going to keep growing over the next 4 years. I'm not sure where it's headed, but I don't see it burning out or being mollified in the next few years. It blew up the GOP this time and it almost blew up the Democratic party. I'm not sure it doesn't go further next time.

The GOP is in a lose-lose situation with Trump. What's the alternative?

1) The RNC convene and nominate somebody new under Rule 9 which states that the 168 party committee members can replace a nominee in the case of "death, declination, or otherwise." Early voting has already occurred. Nobody see's this happening.

I doubt there is anything you could do. Unless Trump resigns immediately after he's inaugurated (if elected) making Pence the POTUS. Therefore, any vote this Election Day is a vote for Pence.

Either way, we're screwed.

The best thing that can happen to the GOP is to have Clinton win in a landslide of historic proportions. That way there would be SOME hope of making people who voted for Trump during the primaries realize they made a tremendous mistake so that this kind of situation can hopefully be avoided in the future.

I think that even if Assange comes up with something that changes things dramatically and Trump somehow wins the Republican Party is screwed. The people who voted for Trump in the primaries are a millstone around its neck. Or if you prefer an albatross. All of the cliche criticisms of the Republican base have now been unequivocally proven to be true by virtue of the absurdity of nominating Donald Trump. They''ve got a critical mass of irrational, stupid and/or ignorant, hateful people in their midst. The've got a lunatic fringe core to their Party now and they're going to have a really hard time winning national general elections. A rational conservative who might have a chance to win the general election can't get past the critical mass of nut jobs in the Republican base. It's going to get nothing but worse as demographics continue to evolve.

What's it say about us that Trump, as bad as he is, is slightly worst than Clinton? I haven't seen any polls today or since Friday, but how far apart are they now? Trump is simply a host unto himself. The Dems are holding their noses and voting for Clinton. The good news is that the GOP has depth in Congress, Governorships and I think State Legislatures. They just can't get a viable, POTUS candidate.


Personally, I fault the RNC to a point for allowing 18 people to run. They should e controlled it and forced Trump to run as an Indy.
