As far as military yeah, CA would never be able to get their own.

Not entirely true. We already have a military of sorts. First, the Governor/President of a seceded Cali could declare that he's retaining control of Cali-based National Guard units. I'm basing that, of course, on the Governor's current authority to call up the Guard for whatever purpose he wants (usually combating forest fires and the like). Whether or not he could keep in-state reserve units is a bit more dicey. But there IS also the State Military Reserve and the recently re-activated State Naval Reserve, which up to now has been a mostly unpaid fall-back for reservists who for whatever reason can't re-up with their current units. The SMR doesn't do much, and the SNR doesn't have much in the way of ships, and we probably couldn't afford to beef those up to fully operational units (particularly in this uber-lib, uber-urban political climate in Cali), but the basis for such an organization DOES exist, SD.

Of course, I am HIGHLY not in favor of secession, as it would be much more complicated than "just" a secession of Cali as a unit. We would likely fragment in the process, with at least Jefferson, if not the entire Central Valley, dropping out of Cali to remain in the Union. The threat of that alone might well put the kibosh on the whole thing, particularly given the vote threshold that would be required....

The National Guard is the part of the United States Army. So...i'm going to say that if California leaves the Union then the National Guard units will become a foreign force.

CA secedes

Federal government removes military hardware and does not cede Federal property (military bases, parks, etc)

Then the special flowers will have to decide if they're ok with that since the only alternative would be to fire on Fort Sumter
