I-AA Game of the Week - Round of 16
IMO one of the more intriguing rounds of 16 in a while... even though I-AA is down.
Subplots... battle of ugly fields, will the Big Sky go 0-4, can David take down Goliath, battle of "neither of us are states", two regular season rematches...

I'm going with Richmond @ North Dakota because I really don't know what to expect from that game, although Villanova at South Dakota State is also a tough call for me.

Tough call, indeed. I chose Spiders v. Bizon...I want to know of ND is still the king.89Hen wrote:I'm going with Richmond @ North Dakota because I really don't know what to expect from that game, although Villanova at South Dakota State is also a tough call for me.

Re: I-AA Game of the Week - Round of 16
Tough call. Was going to go essentially the #9 @ #8 with VU @ SDSU but went with who would probably be if seeded whole field the #10 or #11 UTC @ #5 SHSU.
#1 Scoring & Total Offense vs #6 Total Defense. UTC leading Bama after a qtr and holding them to 31 points/332 yards Total Offense was an eye opener when in Bama's other 11 games they avg 37 points/493 ypg. It was only 14-3 at the half and 24-3 until Bama scored with about a min plus left 4th qtr. Yeah I'm sure Bama didn't bring their 'A' game & kept it vanilla but still.
SHSU's lowest scoring game was @ Nichols (38). But they have also given up to 48 to Incarnate Word, 43 to McNeese, and 31 to Lamar.

BTW, I'm being a jerk... Richmond is playing North Dakota, not NDSU.89Hen wrote:In what, ice hockey?Ibanez wrote: They are the 5 time NC.

absolutely 89. The most intriguing thing for me is I remember when Delaware used to participate in the playoffs......Now the SOuth Dakota State Jackrabbits......a team we once defeated soundly 26-3 in 2010.......are a home favorite over Villanova......

Re: I-AA Game of the Week - Round of 16
SDSU has been on the rise for quite a while. They appear to be a very solid program. They've also invested in their facilities. Their old stadium used to look a lot like the Tub. Not anymore. Hens on the other hand have plummeted faster than Youngstown did. At least the Penguins are giving me hope now that they're back in the playoffs.Bluehen95 wrote:89Hen wrote:IMO one of the more intriguing rounds of 16 in a while... even though I-AA is down.

Went with Nova-SDSU. YSU and NDSU were able to slow down the Jacks and I think Nova has a comparable defense. If Benardczyk can have another solid day passing like he did against SFU they've got a chance.

Re: I-AA Game of the Week - Round of 16
I see I went with the top pick. Interesting to me both because I am a Southland fan and because Sam Houston State played such a weak schedule. Central Arkansas' win over Illinois State made Sam Houston State's blowout win over the Bears look better but one has to remember that Illinois State was a 6-5 team overall and 4-4 in the MVC. Plus Central Arkansas was -5 in the giveaway/takeaway stat against Sam Houston State as compared to +1 against Illinois State and also had a TD on a blocked punt.
The only time I saw UTC play this year was when I was flipping through and watched some of them playing Alabama. And they were pretty darned impressive with respect to how they looked physically against the Tide. Their players o the line of scrimmage both ways acquitted themselves pretty darned well. And they especially did well on their defensive line of scrimmage. No stat reflects that more than the fact that UTC sacked Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts three times while UTC quarterback Alejandro Bennifield was not sacked.
They also did a respectable job overall in holding Alabama to 14 first downs and 332 total yards. I'm telling you when I was watching them I was astounded at how well they were able to hold up physically. Yes Alabama won 31-3 but it was 14-3 at halftime and that was only because UTC fumbled the ball away at their own 9 to Alabama on a punt return to give them a cheap touchdown.

BTW I think the Youngstown State at Jacksonville State thing is also very interesting. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Jacksonville State knocked off here.

My choice, too. SDSU is inconsistent enough to make an upset plausible, plus it could be Andy Talley's final game.kalm wrote:Went with Nova-SDSU. The 24 team field gives us a very good round of games in the round of 16. Most of the weak links have been eliminated.

I voted for SHSU vs Chatty, but I'm also very interested in Nova/SDSU. Actually a very good slate of games. Can't wait to see the F'Hawks against the Spiders - should be a fun game!

One out of two ain't bad. You missed Trump A&M v. Clinton Tech, though.JohnStOnge wrote:I see I went with the top pick. .
