The next four will seem like Christmas compared to what they've been through the past eight years.

JohnStOnge wrote:I've written about this before but the problem with narratives like this is that the exit polling shows them to be false. Take this statement:

No, that's not true. The math Clinton lost on was stuff like White Evangelical Christians supporting Trump to a greater extent than they supported G.W. Bush, McCain, or Romney. Clinton did better among people who thought the economy was the most important issue when Romney LOST among that group.

I don't know why people are so determined to keep believing this kind of thing when the exit polling shows that it's clearly not true. It wasn't because of trade deals. It wasn't because of the economy. It was probably much more because of "cultural" issues than it was because of economic issues. We can't get directly at that question because the exit polling did not ask questions to allow that. But when you see White Evangelical Christians voting by 80% to 16% for Trump when the best any of the three previous Republican candidates did among that group was 78% to 21% while remembering that the "Religious Right" has suffered a number of setbacks in the culture wars recently that should give you a hint as to what went on.

Again: it was not the economy. If you look at exit polling related to the question of the economy Clinton had the edge.
Evangelicals favored a pussy grabber over a center right establishment plutocrat.

Makes sense.

True. The voters of 13 states but predominately NY and CA voted for Clinton. Outside of those two states, Trump garnered more votes.

HOwever, popular vote doesn't matter. Trump received more support from more of the country. And won.

10,000 more people chose Trump in Michigan. It wasn't exactly a landslide elsewhere.

I'm not saying anything like that. But Trump garnered more votes under our electoral system. He reached a group of people that Clinton ignored. CLinton focused more on strongholds like NY and CA and ignored/insulted the Rust Belt.

Almost completely an artifact of the California vote. The Electoral College did exactly what it was supposed to do - it gave a voice to all the states.

If CA secedes then Hillary should run for president there. (unless they decide they want to be a republic... lol)

I don't have any problem with the election result or the electoral college. Which did exactly what it was supposed to do - it prevented rule of the mob. (CA already is a republic...says so right on the flag.. )

Of course they tried to hack us, that's what all countries that can, do to each other - the problem is not that they hacked us the problem is that they were successful. How much money do we rain on our intelligence agencies?

She spent a lot of time trying to appeal to "avg Americans and Bernie supporters." Put a lot more work than that into New York and California.

She was an extremely flawed candidate. Stand back and think about the fact that she was under FBI investigation during most of the election then that specter was resurrected about 10 days before the election. And yes the Russian hacking was a factor. I don't think it'd have been enough to stop her if it hadn't been for the e mail server thing. But it did hurt her.

Yet more United States citizens voted for her and voted for Trump. There were a lot of people who live in States Trump won who voted for her. Basically they voted with the majority of the US population but their votes didn't count because of our electoral college system. Like about 3.9 million people in Texas voted for Hillary. And they voted with a national plurality that favored Clinton. But it didn't matter because even though 43 percent of the voters in Texas favored Clinton 0 percent of the State's electors voted for Clinton.

But...btw...that 43 percent for the Democrat in Texas is very high in a historical context. Texas is inevitably moving to the Democrat column. And when that' happens it's over forever for the Republicans.

You might be happier in a pure democracy.

Pretty much only Bulgaria comes close.

Unless you go back in time to the Weimar Republic, which was very successful, I heard

If pure Democracy was such a good idea, wouldn't those perfect Nordic countries and at least Germany be practicing it?
