Sadly, you're probably right. I think it did have tremendous usefulness coming right out of WWII, but it's been a useless sideshow now for a couple of decades, and hasn't stepped up to an international crisis since maybe going back to the '60's.

The UN hasn't fielded an effective peacekeeping force in decades. It's just a public forum for slamming the US and Israel, and advocating expensive progressive causes. To heck with it, as you would say. 8-)

There's a good article in Natty Review on this subject. The short version is the UN needs us but we don't need it.

No need to defund it, just leave.

As opposed to what, maestro? Having the US keep acting like Charlie Brown with UN Lucy holding the football? The UN is just a thug debating society -- nothing more.

So what? We get our way anytime we really want it, old Europe notwithstanding. When has the UN stopped us from bombing or invading another country when we wanted to? This whimpering about the big bad UN is about like Trump tweeting a response to being dissed by the dishwasher...

You've made the perfect case for withdrawing.

Why do we pay billions of dollars a year to give a veto to regimes like Belarus, North Korea, and Iran again?

You say billions like its real money. :coffee:

We do it to provide a facade of being the International Brotherhood of Love, Trust, and Understanding for those we impose our will on. Makes them think they had a choice about doing as we say.
And we can veto whatever they vote on. Like Israel.

Serious question for an insider: do you think Israel wants us to leave the UN?

I saw something the other day claiming it would cost up to $32 billion to build the wall. So we eliminate funding for the UN and we pay for the wall in 4 years. Sounds like a win-win!

And why the hell would we give money to any organization that allows countries such as Saudi Arabia, China, or Cuba on a human rights panel? :ohno:

I'm still waiting for a substantive answer to how paying approximately 1/4th of the UN bill for nothing in return is something we should be participating in.

Israel would leave with us. They are there because we acknowledge its legitimacy. The minute we don't, it won't be legitimate anymore. (Or at least no more than Germany can make it)

Unless they want to use the militaries of the Middle East and West and Sub-Saharan Africa to enforce their edicts (when they aren't two-holing refugee children and women)

Its not nothing, it gives an air of legitimacy to our rule. Like it isn't just the US throwing our weight around when that is exactly what we are doing.

So why not just issue a blanket declaration of war, make it all legal and shit and let the little people get their snouts in the war pig trough too?

We could spend our way out of debt and buy some time on the overpopulation front. :thumb:

Trump could get an enormous boost in popularity by sending his kids over in the first rifle company, except for the retard, he's too young. Melania can titty-dance for the troops and bill the USO, maybe have them buy a few thousand copies of her "movies" to donate to lonely troops abroad....and all nice and legal if Congress will just be honest with themselves..

How do you describe "nothing"? The total absence of value? A total vacuum? Think about your question before you ask it.

When has the UN ever stopped us from doing as we pleased? Simple question.

Since you haven't answered my question -- or CID's question, for that matter -- I have no obligation to answer yours.

But I will. Case in point: that ludicrous anti-Israel resolution that Obummer directed Samantha Power not to veto. Uncle Sucker will feel at least morally obligated to respect it -- for at least another 9 days. 8-)

We put far more brazillions into the UN than we obtain in benefits. The "peacekeeping" services are a joke, UNESCO is hopelessly politicized, and UNICEF does bupkes for US children. ( If you want to donate to an international children's fund, CARE does it a lot better.) Shall I go on? Time for us to leave.

Even for you that's a ridiculous question. You've outdone yourself

We shouldn't be getting anything at all. There are many other more useful things we could be spending that money on, like rubber band factories, bridges to nowhere, and milf porn.

That's the point.

We are setting billions of dollars on fire annually because we just like playing with matches and it's pretty (and the UN is by no means the only beneficiary of our fiscal bonfire)

Since you see nothing wrong with this business model I'll tell you what- I'm going to mow your lawn, starting this spring, and will do so until I'm dead. Just send me fifty bucks a year. Deal? I'll message you my snail mail addy
