Exempt from Criticism
Do noble/heroic actions exempt elected officials from all criticism? Is John Lewis exempt because he did some courageous things 50 years ago? Is John McCain exempt because of things he did 50 years ago? At what point do we say what have you done for me lately?

Great question and it shouldn't. Lewis was grandstanding and got caught for it. Trump did his thing which gave me a chuckle...and now the left is losing their shit over it and the media is clickbaiting up a storm.HI54UNI wrote:Do noble/heroic actions exempt elected officials from all criticism? McCain has been Senator Douchebag ever since he lost the Presidency in 2008. You can certainly credit a person's past good deeds but call them out when appropriate.kalm wrote:Great question and it shouldn't. Lewis was grandstanding and got caught for it. Re: Exempt from Criticism
The only thing the media will do regarding criticism, is to lump criticism, even false stuff, upon Trump.
Yeah, Trump, "fired" the National Guard General, according to the Washington Post.

Re: Exempt from Criticism
From all accounts I've read, McCain was a poor student (riding the legacy coat tail) at USNA and a below average pilot. He was shot down after requesting some hot seat time to boost his resume.
Yes, he spent long, terrible time as a POW and for that should get his rightful due for medals and veteran benefits, but beyond that he's proven to be a privileged perpetual turd. We're well past any post-POW honeymoon sympathy period with him.

They aren't. Previous acts of heroism or courage don't exempt you from being criticized. Acts of heroism isn't a blank check for future comments/actions.HI54UNI wrote:Do noble/heroic actions exempt elected officials from all criticism? you would be correct - but his obvious ability to do so without becoming a permanent decoration on that carrier pretty much invalidates what you said

I didn't say he couldn't learn to do it, I'm saying that a better pilot got screwed out of a slot by the admiral's son. Very few other pilots would have had the opportunity to lose four or five aircraft either. (And yes they weren't all his fault, but at least one was a straight up joyride that would have grounded anybody else).CID1990 wrote:Except for the fact that he did in fact fly from a carrierhoundawg wrote:

John Lewis to skip inauguration for second time in congressional career
John Lewis to skip inauguration for second time in congressional career
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/john-lewis- ... al-career/Georgia Rep. John Lewis’ absence at the inauguration of Donald Trump on Friday will mark the second time he has skipped an inauguration since he was elected to Congress 30 years ago.
President-elect Trump is not, in Lewis’ view a “legitimate president,” he told NBC’s Chuck Todd last week, a comment which aroused a predictable response from Mr. Trump -- a trio of angry tweets. At the time, Lewis said it would be the first time he’d be skipping an inauguration as a congressman, but in fact, there was another missed inauguration -- also a protest -- and that was the 2001 swearing in of President George W. Bush.
“His absence at that time was also a form of dissent,” Lewis’ communications director, Brenda Jones, told CBS News’ Walt Cronkite in an email. “He did not believe the outcome of the election, including the controversies around the results in Florida and the unprecedented intervention of the US Supreme Court, reflected a free, fair and open democratic process. “

Not showing up is a classier way to show your disapproval than shouting 'YOU LIE' at the President during the speech, imo.

I don't disagree. But the point is that he is over-grandstanding, and got caught.Skjellyfetti wrote:Not showing up is a classier way to show your disapproval than shouting 'YOU LIE' at the President during the speech, imo.
Bottom line is that there will be no impact on the inauguration with his lack of attendance.

Re: Exempt from Criticism
I get they are disappointed, but the partisanship in this country makes zero sense to me (logically. I get it, but it's illogical to me.) Trump was elected fairly (until proven otherwise) according to our constitution. The same constitution that's elected the previous 44 people. I understand the issues people have with the Electoral College (although, it only seems to be a problem with Democrats aren't elected) but the process has worked as designed in the 58 presidential elections we've held. 5 of those are cases where the winner of the popular vote lost the Electoral Vote. Democracy has worked. Don't attend the inauguration, that's fine. Who cares? But to say he is illegitimate based on zero facts is just ridiculous. It was as ridiculous when the conservatives bitched in 2008/09 about Obama being a Kenyan and it's ridiculous today. Based on current facts, he was elected fair and square.Skjellyfetti wrote:Not showing up is a classier way to show your disapproval than shouting 'YOU LIE' at the President during the speech, imo.
Clinton was the worst candidate they could've run. They were more focused on making history then running the best candidate.
