Priest in Philly catholic child rape and abuse scandal pleads guilty.

In a statement of facts read as part of the guilty plea, Assistant District Attorney Patrick Blessington said, “Avery was aided in his efforts to remain in ministry with unsupervised access to parish children and altar servers b Lynn and others in the Archdiocese.

“Defendant Lynn and other Archdiocese officials acted in concert with Avery with a common purpose to conceal Avery’s known acts of sexual abuse of a minor, so that Avery could remain in ministry without the knowledge of parishioners whose children would be exposed to a man that defendant Lynn and others in the Archdiocese knew presented a danger to children.”

Lynn’s trial is scheduled to begin this coming Monday.

This will hopefully open up the floodgates for criminal charges against catholic higer ups.

The catholic church hierarchy is essentially a bunch criminals who have figured out to beat the system, for now. For centuries they've operated a country club of sorts where gay men, sexual predators and psychopaths prey on the children of the laity, especially their young boys. The laity, drunk with ignorance that often comes from cult involvement, essentially allow their children to be unsupervised with men who cant have sex and dress in costumes and live in a secret world.

In the day's most startling testimony, a detective read internal church memos about a priest who allegedly "joked about how hard it was to have sex with three boys in one week." His accuser also stated that the priest had a "rotation process" of boys spending time sleeping with him.

Defense lawyers argue that Lynn tried to address the problem as secretary for clergy from 1992 to 2004, but was blocked by the late Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua and others in the Philadelphia archdiocese.

The testimony Monday also included a 1992 complaint about a different priest who allegedly molested boys at a church-owned camp three decades earlier.

Several junior counselors complained in the early 1960s that the priest was on the prowl at night, molesting them in their tents. They said it was a well-known secret among teen counselors for several years.

The priest remained in ministry, working at three archdiocesan high schools and serving as assistant superintendent of Catholic schools through 2004. Confronted after a man complained to the archdiocese in 1992, the priest admitted to the "sin" of masturbation and said he had read up on that subject because so many people were mentioning it in the confessional.
Few victims or members of the public have been attending the trial in downtown Philadelphia, but retired Philadelphia detective Arthur Baselice III of Mantua, N.J., turned out Monday.

His 28-year-old son, Arthur Jr., died of a drug overdose in 2006, after his civil lawsuit against the church accusing his high school principal of molesting him was thrown out because of legal time limits. The former principal, a Franciscan friar, is in prison for stealing nearly $900,000 from the school and the Franciscans, some of which fed the younger Baselice's drug addiction, according to prosecutors.

SNAP is a curious "rape crisis counselor" and advocacy group. I know of no other such legitimate organization which works so closely with personal injury attorneys. SNAP is distributing press releases with copies of lawsuits before they are filed.

Yet if you raise the quite obvious question of how intertwined SNAP's affairs are with the personal injury lawyers who so "generously" donate to it, and try to make an inquiry of this suspect relationship, you get screamed down with insults like the hissy fit you just threw.

Clohessy's deposition makes it clear SNAP does not qualify under law as a rape counseling center. In fact, he admitted that SNAP has no licensed counselors on its staff. But he refused to answer any question about SNAP's relationship with the media and attorneys based on the privilege afforded to rape crisis centers.

Well, a former employee, now SNAP whistle blower, has filed a lawsuit alleging precisely what I've been saying all along.

Again, there isn't any doubt a number of priests engaged in predatory conduct. I doubt the figure of 7% is accurate, though. Numerous studies suggest that the percentage of predatory priests is not greater than the percentage of the population as a whole. The article says 7% were "accused" but that doesn't mean 7% actually engaged in such acts. What is becoming clear is that the number of accusations against priests are becoming inflated due to belief that an accusation will result in a legal settlement. See my link above for the reasons why, i.e., a cottage industry has been created.
