Yeah, that's flat wrong.

Wine was all over the there BC. Not to mention that Palestine was a ROMAN territory. The first thing the Romans would do when they would enter a new area is plant all the vineyards they could. Wine was there before the Romans, but exploded afterwards. And, it's not complete desert.

And, that's not to mention all of the wine symbolism and allegory in the New Testament. Not just turning water into wine - the workers in the vineyards, I am the True Vine... and the Last Supper. Do you think the Last Supper was meant to be beer? :?

Most of that region was less of a desert than it is now, too

I've had some wines produced on both sides of the Jordan River - drank them in Amman, in fact- the Jordanians are quite proud of them and should be - they're very good

That said, the Romans had a pretty sophisticated supply chain in their empire, and given that Israel was just a relatively short boat ride from Italy it wouldn't surprise me if the Romans didn't prefer their own imported stuff over whatever was being produced in the region at that time

Producing wine in the desert changes nothing about the fact that the bible is a load of bullshit.

I highly doubt average Jews were drinking the good stuff from the Romans.

I threw Jesus into it to make it hurt even more, even though we were talking about the Bible.

I should post more if you believe I was serious.

Citdog imformed once that Martin Luther was a raging anti-Semite so I'm afraid you guys are not off the hook yet.

(I was confirmed in the Lutheran church which I understand is a more laid back, less rapey, liberal version of Catholicism....so I've got that going for me...which is nice)

Sorry. The no wine in the Holy Land was a clear sign of trolling.

Besides, you do know Jesus could make wine at his whim out of anything, including a tiny mustard seed?

Anybody can make wine. The real question is if that person can make a good wine.

Prisoners can make wine. I don't find that "miracle" all that impressive. :coffee:
