The further takeaway is that we shouldn't take prisoners. Just kill them

Number imprisoned at Guantanamo by the Department of Defense since the prison opened:
779
I don't totally disagree with the general sentiment, but if you take 122 and divide it by 738 (subtracting the 41 remaining 'combatants') that would place the 'recidivism' rate at less than 17%.
The big picture being: We've now been dicking around in Iraq for 26+ years (after 'embracing' Saddam as a 'useful' terrorist for the prior 10 years). Ditto for Iran since 1979 (or, 1954, depending upon your point of view). The end result is: Saddam is dead (along with a million others? - including 5,000 or so of America's finest), hundreds of thousands maimed (including tens of thousands of America's finest), trillions of tax dollars dispensed ... 'making friends and influencing people' in the ME.
Creating a Shia Domain from Iran to Syria, and a defacto non-Arab autonomous Kurdistan within Iraq (that includes a Constitutionally-mandated referendum for independence!).
While our good 'friends' at the House of Saud continue with state-sponsored Wahhabism, and exported 13 of the 17 jihadists who attacked America on 9/11. We keep making our bed in the ME while defecating in it at the same time -- creating generational jihadists who want to kill us.
We need to stop, and let them kill each other until they get tired of it. If they pal-around with some of their jihadi buddies and collude in efforts to bring harm to America, shoot a China-labeled HellFire up their posterior, or a Rooskie-made Tomahawk in their left ear. Get us the heck out of harm's way and let natural selection play out.
