Cycling in Montana

Post by kalm »

Seagriz shared this on Facebook...

Freedom loving, free market Montana Republican wants to tax cyclists and restrict their usage. Although as SeGriz points out, cyclists CAN be huge douches.

Born in Wyoming and went to school in Idaho. I'll cut him some slack as that is a lot to have working against a fella.

All bicycles should be taxed and licensed if they are using roads or bike paths built with tax dollars.

Just like:
Trucks
cars
motorcycles
trailers
ATVs

The cyclists that do the TOSRV every year from Missoula up through Seeley etc. should be fucking mowed down because they are the most inconsiderate fucking douches I've came across on a road.

They will take up as much room as they feel like while cars line up behind them. Fuck them assholes.

Yeah and on that very same stretch of road there are countless inconsiderate douches who speed and attempt to pass when they have no business doing so, putting other people at risk. So I guess what I'm saying is inconsiderate douches are going to be inconsiderate douches regardless of what conveyance they're using.

Shit I got held up by a cattle drive on Highway 12 one time but that doesn't mean all ranchers are assholes.

This is awesome. I have been complaining about this for years. Our tax dollars go into building bike trails yet these assholes in tights with sponsors plastered all over them want to hold up traffic on the roads. Fuck them.

Bicycles are not licensed or taxed like vehicles in Montana.

You know just today it was such a beautiful Spring day that I rode my 1983 Schwinn World Sport around for about an hour.

Read the link in the article. One of the main points is that the cyclists are also motorists and road funding comes from many sources.

That is fine but I am telling you as person who used to deal with licensing and taxing of vehicle for 10 years nothing is required of bicycles. It was a very common question we got.

They should be but they aren't, at least at the state level. Individual cities may have their own rules.

The point in the article is that funds come from other places. Yes cyclists pay income taxes etc. But they do not have to be registered in Montana, which was the point of the post you quoted.

If they're Montana residents they more than likely also drive cars and pay other assorted taxes which go to roads. If they are non-residents, they don't. Which would be true of non-resident motorists as well.

Yeah, nothing like having to drive really slowly because some asshole cyclist is in the road instead of on the shoulder. Fuckers.

When I lived in CA., bicyclists had the mentality they could ride in the middle of the street and the red octagon signs did not pertain to them. If a group was riding together the clowns would deliberately hog the road and back up traffic. I seen one get whacked at a stop sign and ready didn't feel for the fancy shirt and short attired gent.
