I don't know if they were holding the position that we shouldn't even study the situation; that studying the situation is a waste of money.kalm wrote:

Climates always change, it is a cyclical thing. Humans in their arrogance think they can control it, they can't. Even if the could, a major event like Krakatoa or Mt. St. Helens will change everything.

Seems like quite the opposite to me
However I like your romanticizing of it - it's very Alphagriz of you
Note:
You blow up the "government" from within (because he's within the government)
By destroying it's largest most crony based factions - and he ain't doing that at all

Don't worry, Clittoris- I'm still a smallgummint guy... and I still think Trump is a statist carbon copy of Hillery

Re: Trump's budget
It's not a matter of controlling the climate. It's a matter of understanding it. And I agree with you to some extent. For example: Suppose another ice age would've come if humans weren't increasing the "greenhouse gasses" level but because humans are increasing "greenhouse gas" levels over what they would've been it doesn't happen?Jjoey52 wrote:Climates always change, it is a cyclical thing. But saying that spending money to try to understand the question of whether our activity has an impact and, if so, how it has an impact is a waste of money is just awful.
It is true that it is a situation that is very difficult to study and it's a situation where we can never have controlled experiments to unambiguously infer cause and effect. But that doesn't mean we should not study it and have the people who do study it publicly express their opinions.

Control it? Who is a talking about controlling it? Man-made pollution and it's effect on the climate isn't some fake news.Jjoey52 wrote:Climates always change, it is a cyclical thing. The air and other pollution needs to be curtailed more for health reasons than climate.

Re: Trump's budget
I have been on this board many times criticizing the impression of certainty associated with the idea of human impact on the climate and especially the idea that if X is done Y will happen or if X is not done Y will happen. But I also think that cuts both ways. I think it would be a big mistake to assume humankind is not having an impact of some sort on the climate. And I think sticking our heads into the sand in order to avoid trying to gain some understanding of that would be insane.Jjoey52 wrote:The air and other pollution needs to be curtailed more for health reasons than climate.
Common sense should tell anyone that we are having SOME effect upon the climate. Living organisms do that and we are extremely influential living organisms.
