Go back to the exact same repeal bill that conks passed in 2015 which Obama vetoed last Jan. The conks who voted for it them (near unanimously) would have no excuse not to vote for it now...

Performance anxiety. Besides, it's easy to vote for something when you know it won't pass. They were throwing their supporters a bone. HEY! Look, i'm voting like I said I would!!! Republicans have no excuses...something tells me Trump is rushing them and nobody has the brass to tell him it's a bad idea to rush this sort of bill.BDKJMU wrote:Go back to the exact same repeal bill that conks passed in 2015 which Obama vetoed last Jan. Re: Wheres the Republican alternative to ACA?
I heard something in the same vein today, that Trump "demanding" a vote is circumventing our system of government and the separation of powers. I don't see it that way - Presidents from the same party have always worked with the members of the legislature of the same party to craft bills to bring to a vote. It's obviously never been the type of model as you have in parliamentary systems, but the President has always been involved in the legislative process, if for nothing else because he ultimately signs or vetoes the bills that come out of the legislature. Trump may be bombastic about it, but that's because he's a buffoon of sorts. But he's no different than Clinton or Reagan or LBJ or Truman or FDR or TR or countless other Presidents who have made it clear to Congress about what their policies are and how they want the bills to come to them. Congress never has to follow their lead, and that's where the civics works - that's where the separation of powers is. But the President should always be allowed, and frankly expected, to weigh in.Ibanez wrote:Looks like he's being checked by Representatives. Well done.

Re: Wheres the Republican alternative to ACA?
Like I said, they know they can't pull back the entitlements now. The endgame is where it's been for 8 years now - single payer for a mediocre system that says it covers all and a pay to play private system alongside where those with means can get the good stuff. Only question remains is does the GOP want to author that system or to leave it to the Dems when at some point in the future power shifts. I'm thinking they let the Dems carry the ball on that one.Ibanez wrote:Performance anxiety. Besides, it's easy to vote for something when you know it won't pass. Re: Wheres the Republican alternative to ACA?
Yep. No way do the conks pass single payer. The donks will need at a minimum the White House and both houses of congress. They migjt need the same thing they needed to pass Obamacare- the WH, both houses of Congress with a supermajoriry in the Senate. Anything short of that they wouldn't have passed Obamacare, and they might need that to pass single payer unless it can be done with a simple 51 votes. Regardless, it will likely be a couple of decades before we see full blown single payer.
If the conks do get some type of Obamacare light passed, that might prolong things for an additional decade or 2..

One thing I was thinking of as I watched this unfold is my belief that the idea that Trump is this great "dealmaker" is probably a myth. I'm sure most if not all of you are aware that the guy who actually wrote "The Art of the Deal" as a ghost writer said it was a bunch of crap and Trump is a fraud. Google "Trump actually has a poor record in making deals" and see what you get.
The article I got at the top of my search is headlined "Trump Says He’s a Great Negotiator, but the Evidence Says Otherwise." It's at http://fortune.com/2016/07/19/donald-tr ... -the-deal/.

I think conks are hosed no matter what. They've done so much bitching about Obamacare that if they do nothing about it with this Congressional and WH control, will looks equally as incompetent as the donks. Yeah yeah we know they are equally as incompetent, but now they'll give the donks plenty of soundbites and exmples to feed the unwashed masses come the next midterm.BDKJMU wrote:Yep. Bottom line is conks had no plan, and are now caught with their pants down. What retards.

It's becoming painfully apparent that the sad truth is that the "donks" are more competent. I say it's sad because I would characterize myself as a "conk.' But the conclusion is unavoidable in my opinion.SDHornet wrote:I think conks are hosed no matter what. It's tricky to assess the levels of incompetence reallyCID1990 wrote:at least more competent in getting their caucus to vote in lockstep for an abortion of a billJohnStOnge wrote:

People like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are without question incompetent
add to that their arrogance and insufferable nature and *Bingo...
Sadly,
Now we have a president as incompetent and arrogant as those ^ mentioned above
Who's to say really... Is it a tie..?
Nobody likes Japanese Baseball because its not uncommon for games to end in a tie
Although the Falcons probably (looking back) would settle for a tie

Give it a read even though it is Breitbart, for if Joel nails his prediction, I would be really impressed. It's also very short in length.Skjellyfetti wrote:So much for the 'Art of the Deal.'

So he let them make the first move — and he exposed two things about them: first, that they had not come up with a plan that was ready for prime time; second, that they had not done any of the political legwork necessary to sell their plan to voters.
Trump gave Speaker Paul Ryan and the House Republican leadership enough rope to hang themselves. Instead of dictating terms to him, they will now depend on him to save them, politically. They must accept whatever plan he will put forward.

Re: Wheres the Republican alternative to ACA?
Ahhhh, it's all part of a grand strategy to get HIS wonderful ideas into law.
Right.
Trump has to delegate on policy like healthcare... because he doesn't have a clue... and, probably doesn't give a shit.
If he had some brilliant solution to our healthcare clusterfuck... he would have campaigned on it and seen it implemented... Instead of wasting the first few months of his Presidency on a shitty plan that would make his party appear incompetent.
Perhaps Breitbart is right.... but, any honest reading makes it seem like a desperate attempt to polish this turd for Trump.

But, it's a lot different voting for a bill that you know will never be inacted because it would be vetoed... and, voting for a bill that you know is going to fuck over a large % of your constituency.
Voting to repeal Obamacare 50 times when it has no chance of success is easy. Dealing with the consequences of actually governance is difficult.

Yeah but if they had voted for the repeal bill prior and had publicly called for repeal (ie most Republicans) they would have been somewhat boxed in in having to vote for it again. Because if they didn't they would have been askedSkjellyfetti wrote:In theory...BDKJMU wrote:Go back to the exact same repeal bill that conks passed in 2015 which Obama vetoed last Jan. "You voted for this exact same repeal bill several times before. Why did you vote against it now?"
It would be political suicide to respond with, "I voted for it before because I knew Obama would veto it. But now that I knew it would actually pass I voted against it."

Seriously though- I don't think Trump is really interested in health care. I think he wanted to get past it so he can move on to the things that do interest him, like tax reform.
The reason he may have gone with Obamacare so quickly is that 1) he wanted to get it out of the way and 2) he needed a deficit reduction off the bat that he could point to because his tax cuts are going to be a deficit builder

Probably right . Ibut now they have the deficit issue which will seem to get worse with tax reform without the border adjustment tax. Put the border tax in and tax reform goes the way of healthcare reform.CID1990 wrote:I think that's what he wanted to not do all alongOL FU wrote:Who cares? Now move on to not reforming the tax code
